    Dear All

I'm just wondering if small business like myself need to register for the new 'Customs Declarations Service' which replaces 'CHIEF' - apparently!?

Currently, I just import in bulk from foreign countries to the UK but all the paperwork and import charges are taken care of by the company/courier company. I then sell the individual items worldwide and again any import duties etc. is taken care of by the couriers/delivery service.

So is there a need for me and other similar small businesses to worry about this new service?

    Thanks Mike

    Hi Mike,

If your goods are imported using your EORI number then yes you will need to register. (Via Government Gateway). Some more information here: https://www.woodlandgroup.com/news/...ou-prepared-for-the-switch-from-chief-to-cds/

    Kind regards,
    Darren.

Thanks, and if they are not imported using an EROI number?

    Mike
    Hi Mike,

As long as you're bringing goods from abroad, you should have an EORI number, it is a requirement for all importers, as all customs declarations (even if these are completed by the courier) are recorded against this EORI number and also, makes you , the importer liable for any debt that may arise.
