Just wondering what people think of cubecart. It is built into my hosting package so it could be a good springboard into ecommerce.

I has a project in mind - 1000 products, some with colour choices. small part time business.

Would it be Cubecart 3 that'd be installed?
I've have used cc3 for a year now, it is great for a free cart really but it is not as user friendly as I'd have liked. I may upgrade to 4 or even 5 when my site is redesigned.
You'd have to install a SEO mod for your urls to be userfriendly and you will probably end up installing a few other mods before you are totally happy with it.
I found adding products to take forever with it, but I'm unsure of how other carts would differ.
I also found limits to how I could easily add non product pages to my site, you can do it though.

Zen Cart does look better, I was tempted. I'd ask myself what I want from the cart and compare their features.
Remember that the website look would change when you created the design anyway so don't worry much about that.

We have used quite a few shopping carts but find Cube Cart the best for for us. Version 4 is easy to use & we can do most of it ourselves but there is planty of support & good prices too

We did look at magento briefly but found it to be alot of hassle. Im sure its better now as its been a round for some time.
Plenty of folks like it

I develop & design many storefronts for my clients custom or with exsisting software. Cubecart is good to use, but mainly its a default software most hosting providors offers such as Oscommerce & zencart.

Depending on your experience if a newbie cubecart would be great, otherwise a budget & a well established designer can save you the headache & time on creating exactly what you & your brand is looking for.

for the price of it I would go for CC4 as it will save you time compared to cc3. 5 is not yet properly released but you can upgrade to it once it goes live

One of the best things about CC is the support.
Included with CC4 is a support package to get you started.
There are also 2 forums & communities for cc.

You can do most if it yourself if you wish but if Im short of time I do use some of the developers on there & they are charging far too low prices for what they do.
