Have seen some great crowdfunding concepts over the past few years, some big some small. The successful ones tended to be able to reach a good sized target group already having an interest and be able to offer something of benefit.
This concept so far appears to not do either.

Perhaps better use of time and energy in different source of money.

No they don't. As has already been explained they raise money for products or ideas that people can believe in/want. It just so happens that, in some cases, people end up running/owning a company as a result.

The OP needs to present a compelling concept. If he can do that he will get funding. If he just presents the idea that people pay money so he can have a company he will fail.

Absolutely correct. Without a concept, a sketch, a ready made sample, a demo — the chance is very slim.

And it’s SO RISKY because anyone can just steal your concept and start producing it while you’re in the thinking phase with no real money.

And I’m positive that the author of the product “X” will not have money for a patent so no patent means anyone can just copy-paste the sh*t out of you.

Chinese, even Europeans.

Thanks for your reply.

I haven't disclosed details of the entire project, nor do I intend to on these forums. I have tried instead to keep focus on my actual question of whether crowdfunding can be used to start a business (answer is yes) including if some of the funds are to be used to purchase an intangible asset (the answer I've got on here and now from a crowdfunding site is yes).

You do raise a good point about the benefits to crowdfunding users of investing though :)
