Credit control in the USA

Hi all,

We want to start doing more business in the USA, but have always been put off by how best to manage credit in that market.

We were thinking of offering payment via credit card only initially, but even that isn't exactly ideal for customers. Credit insurance as an alternative is of course for serious volumes of sales.

Has anyone had any experience in this part of the world? One final idea was a signed authorisation form which states we can take authorise but not capture payment from their card at shipping, and then capture at a fixed period later depending on how long that authorisation can last.

Thanks!
