Hi,

I really hope someone can help, as I'm coming up against a brick wall!

Is there way that I can check if a company has had debts (credit cards) registered against it? Also the company address?

Thank you.

There is no reliable way of checking a trading address other than turning up.

the registered address - which must a a real address should be available on all correspondence and at Companies House.

Reference agencies won't identify individual sources of debt & will only show info on an historic basis - so I guess the answer is no.

We have found evidence that an employee has been using the company and/or address to obtain credit cards. Before it's taken any further, we want to check exactly what has been registered.

I've just spoken to Experian, and they can't help either.

It just seems a little crazy that you can't find out what your company name & address has been used for.

I suggest something along the lines of -

To -
Easycredit-for-Morons Ltd.,
12, Railway Cuttings,
East Cheam.

Sirs,

We have reason to believe that your company may have issued a credit card to, or otherwise entered a credit agreement with one

Avignon Goatposture,
23, Toad Lane,
Scunthorpe.

We also believe that our company address may have been used.

This person was an employee but is no longer in our employ. Mr Goatposture did at no time have any powers of procura or be in a position to engage in credit arrangements of any sort on our behalf. We can therefore not be held morally, circumstantially or legally responsible for any debts incurred by Mr. Goatposture at any time.

Yours, etc.

So I have got a little further with this, and thought I would share my information in case it's useful to anyone in the future.

I credit card, or any other form of credit, can't be taken out with a business address as the name needs to tie up with the address on the electoral roll. But what can then happen is that the address is changed, to literally any address, and no further checks will be made!

It's really, really hard to find out what credit is linked to your business name or address! We have been advised to use the legal aid on our business insurance, and they can find out. But I'm not sure how, or even if this is feasible. Yet....
