Credit card terminals

I'm looking for a terminal which the sales staff can use through a PC (I guess via USB) but the customer still interfaces through a regular keypad.

I want to avoid our sales staff having to type the details into the device before the customer handles it.

In order to get this you'll need an EPOS system. In my experience of EPOS providers, they'll want to provide the whole package for you, and 9 times out of 10 they'll give you rubbish and slow machines. Usually made by Thyron or Hypercom. Standalone terminals are much easier and more hassle free. If you would like more advice, just send me a PM.

I happen to actually work for Thyron Systems. I won’t report you this time on grounds of ignorance, but you lack of professionalism for other companies concerns me and an apology should be due. Allow me to clarify for you, Thyron Systems Ltd. mainly deals in mobile terminals whose speed per transaction is 7-10 seconds how is that in any shape or from ''slow'' considering these are some of the fastest chip and pin speed available on the market today allow me to reiterate we do not deal with EPOS and haven’t done so since 1989. The fact that our clientele includes Barclays and ATOS by making such accusations you provide a bad name to the industry as a whole. Please for future reference do your research before trying to slam the competition.

Willj87, this is an unprofessional and dowright inaccurate statement.

I work for an EPOS provider, and with our partner YESpay we provide integrated chip and pin software (which also operates in cardholder not present mode).

When it comes to the devices we provide, the ones we offer are from Verifone (exactly the same models used by Tesco, Sainsburys and other large retailers).

YESpay uses broadband to authorise transactions, which takes literally a few seconds.

There are many EPOS providers out there like ourselves, who offer an excellent solution with a partner like YESpay, and a robust pin entry device.

I can understand that you want to sell your particular type of solution, but to rubbish system providers and manufacturers in the way you did is not the way to do it.

Okay, I do apologise as what I said was not quite what I meant, and I hold my hands up for that one. What I meant, and admittedly this may not be the case all the time, but from what I have seen, is that slightly older terminals are supplied by EPOS companies. Meaning the terminals are slow and outdated. I did not mean my comment to be taken in the way it was.

Apology accepted Will, and if it is something perhaps you have based your opinion on from personal experience then its fine. I for one don't have a lot of experience with EPOS systems hence i refrain from commenting in depth on them :) But kudos goes for your amends take's integrity to admit where one is wrong especially for us salesmen lol

ps John does you company offer an integration piece for your EPOS systems to link mobile terminals?

Do you mean a) wireless terminals (eg as used in a restaurant), or b) completely mobile (eg as used by a taxi driver)?

If you mean a), then yes.

If you mean b), there is not any integration as the terminal needs to be 'fed' the transaction amount from the system, which would need to be attached. YESpay also offer a virtual terminal (a bit like a website checkout) which can be accessed via smartphones or laptops.

Yep I was referring to a) J we actually provide Wi-Fi terminals as well as chip and pin, we do have a wireless Bluetooth PosMate also that can interface with PDA’s, Phones, and Tablet but it’s a volume driven product. Are you guys in a business of providing the clients the full package in terms of hardware and software or do you specifically target the software market. And is GPRS and Wi-Fi is something you perhaps have looked at in the past or something you may be willing to market in the future?

Although we write the software, we provide everything related to the system including hardware, plus consumables like till rolls and barcode labels. We also design transactional websites and handle everything to do with that (payment gateway, hosting etc).

The last thing a retailer wants is to have to source everything from different suppliers, particularly if they don't fully understand what they need.

We have never had much call for GPRS/wi-fi and it's unlikely we will in the future. We have a couple of solutions for selling at trade shows etc, but these usually rely on a wireless dongle as they are cheap and simple. PM me if you want any more information.
