Dear All :)

For the last couple of days I am facing a huge problem and getting all over confused in regards to pros and cons of HTML and Flash based websites Feeling a bit like...

I was wondering if any of you would be kind enough and share your own view on this case as I am no longer able to say which option is best (taking into account: design, functionality, SEO etc.)

My dream site would have a lot of spaces for videos as this is a main service I would offer although I am planning to sell other services alongside.

In terms of eCommerce or Website - well I keep both options open for now as I have a possibility to sell my services both ways

I will highly appreciate your help, comments, "talking out of experience" and plenty of useful links!!!

Thank you all!!!

Hi,

I would recommend HTML & CSS only !!
Flash is not robots friendly, it is much harder to optimise websites built in flash.
If you want to be high in google ranking, google bot must be able to easily read your website's content. With Flash it is difficult. And even though you want your website to be very interactive, with lots of cool flying staff and many triggers to do things, with Javascript (Jquery, Ajax) or these days getting more and more popular Ruby, it is easily achivable. There is no need for Flash. Flash is out of date when it comes to websites.

I have built my own website using HTML and CSS and I had a same problem as you facing now, and with my experiance I think I know what I'm talking about. I think... ;]
I hope I helped...

Thanks, Adam

HTML5!!!

Flash should be used where necessary (some video scripts, chatroom applets etc.) but generally speaking are prone to crashing browsers, flash object crashing (browser works fine but no flash applets work... displaying error), poor memory usage and numerous exploits.

if you're thinking of building an entire website in Flash. Don't! :)

Some say the nail in the coffin for Adobe Flash was when Apple decided not to support the software in their iOS software - the operating system software that powers iPhones and iPads. Apple cited poor battery consumption for Flash. Sceptics say it was a ploy by Apple to quash a threat. It's probably a mix of both.

We recommend our Ecenica hosting users to use HTML and CSS.

For public videos it can also help to host these on YouTube or Vimeo and then embed them into your site.

Cheers

Rich

Not looked at Joomla since 1.5 but 2.5 is going to be the better as it's improved on 1.5 which would have fixed bugs within 1.5 but adfded more functionality, but you will lose the functionality of some plugins which haven't been updated (but this will happen with any software imho).

Personally I choose WP over Joomla because of it's flexibilty and ease of use, as Joomla has a much harder learning curve, but in the end, they both do the same function with a different UI.

Ive produced several websites. My first was with Moonfruit and was ok and ranked well but was flash based. With computing heading towards mobile devices this concerned me.

I therefore made on using Wix which is HTML5 based 'aparently'......the user interface is nice and I made a nice looking site but with regards to website based SEO it was useless, URL'S were rubbish and google didn't seem to be able to search website content......oh also a 50 page site only displayed as one page. Ranking was dreadful.

I've just created another site with Wordpress. I found it hard work at first but now ive got to grips with how it functions its a piece of cake! Made a nice looking site that works accross most popular devices and browsers. Very customisable too. Wouldn't use anything else now!
