Creating a name?

Hi all,

Looking for some help along the way, currently studying Media at college and I've hit a brick wall!
Task is to create a product and name. I've got the product, designer underwear, I just can't for the life of me think of a good name of the website that relates to briefs etc however not 'cheap'. Originally wanted 'UnderGear' however it's already taken!

Apologies if posted in wrong area

Kind Regards
Sam

When looking at names you need to be aware of the overall brand image you want to create, who is your target market?, will you add new products to the range? and so on.

What kind of image do you want to portray?, youthful, energetic, cool, sophisticated????

Once you have decided on the image, you can then look at names...for example...

attracting a younger consumer with a rebelious streak.

ROWDY The designer underwear we challenge you to wear.

Just an off the cuff idea, so don't take it seriously.

Many thanks for the great response!

Apologies, my target market is Youths and Young Adults, who want to wear the designer band on the hips to seem 'cool', I'd like the site to portray this.
Modern yet upmarket with rich colours, and arty graphics, if that's possible!

Brief Encounter- Very Good, very much like that.

Bannana Hammock- :p, original plan was to have a 'comical' name, however some believed it would detract from my Upmarket brand??

Thanks all for yours suggestion, im sure their are many more..

Seems Brief Encounter already taken, so is Banana Hammock :)!

When thinking about the target Market. Vibe, Fusion, Zest come into my mind. I want people to think 'underwear' though? I
Should I look at it from another perspective ?

Vibe, Fusion and Zest are words that could be applied to anything and dont spell out underwear. While generic names can and do work, you need to think about the long term implications - If I asked you to get me some Zest, that could mean anything from perhaps a fruit drink right through to detergient.

What about 'slang'? Some people will know these names and associate them with underwear and perhaps may give that young/trendy target something better suited to them. I for one know them as 'grogs' (Although I never call them this) but there must be alot of names for them, for different regions etc

*Another could be 'Ball Stranglers'

Underwear marketing is not my forte but after your brief the first one that came to mind was
Hipstars

It catches todays younger celeb obsessed culture, is a unisex brand and also leaves it open to all sorts of marketing catchphrases
"Be a star - Wear hipstars"
"Bring out the star in you"

Given more time i could come up with more but i am not doing your work for you :)

Wasn't expecting such a vast amount and very through proving responses, many thanks.

My two favourites are;
UrbanUnderwear
Underware

Saying that, a more comical name is likely to stick in the customers head for future reference...?

Many thanks all, greatly appreciated

Are you talking about men's underwear? You didn't actually say, although the answers and names suggested assume it is a men's underwear company. Clearly the same names will not appeal to both men and women. My advice is to think how men (assuming they are the target audience) would like to feel in your underwear and use words reflecting this quality in your name eg Stallion, Rebel, Renegade. If your college project stipulates that the name has to be unique, then that's not a problem - you can always add another word to make a unique URL eg Red Stallion, Renegade Underwear.

Here's an article I wrote on choosing a name for a fashion business, which might give you some ideas: http://ezinearticles.com/?Choosing-a-Name-For-Your-Fashion-Business&id=4007629
