cpanel, helm or plesk

Hmm,

Plesk for Windows
Plesk for Linux

If you aren't hosting anything important then DirectAdmin would do on Linux.

Sw-soft(makers of Plesk) are such a well organized and setup company. They are staffed 24/7, ticket system and phone, peace of mind knowing they are a phone call away should anything happen.

Helm on the other hand, which I quite like, don't offer 24/7 support and don't work weekends. For this reason alone they lose out on the Windows spot.

DirectAdmin(although a VERY nice product) has only two people working there. Again they have to lose our purely from a support point of view.

(my personal preference and not in any relation to the company preference)

Can't comment on the configuration of Helm or Plesk but having used both as an end user I would recommend Helm. Cleaner interface, easier to use, and much more reliable. When we were using Plesk some of the services kept failing (including the SMTP service) which caused us no end of agro and the interface was not as intuitive as Helm.

This maybe true but you will see the developers CEO and CTO posting on the forums day and night and at weekends. The forums themselves offer a higher level of (free) support than WHA offer.

We're also in the process of working out the details to be abel to offer 24/7 paid support.

As Phil says though our forums are invaluable and cover most things you'll need. If you can't find an answer just post as they're hundreds of Helm hosts like Phil there to help.. as well as myself and Adam.

    We use cPanel.

We have a dedicated web server and use the cPanel/WHM suite. We find this very reliable and stable.

I have used plesk before and still rate cPanel. I havent used helm before though.

cPanel is too bloated for my personal liking. But it is our most popular control panel by a long way.

    Linux - Ensim
That suprises me - dont often see recommendations for Ensim.

IMHO there isnt a "best" conrol panel, or even a best control panel for eeach o/s, its very much dependant on the task and the end users preference. In terms of our client usage we see them as:

    Linux - Plesk
    Linux - CPanel
    Linux - H-Sphere
    Windows - Plesk
    Linux - RaQ
    Linux - Ensim
    Windows - Ensim
    Windows - Helm
    Linux- DirectAdmin

In my experience once someone has used a control panel, they are loathe to learn another one, we get regular requests from people insistant on being on a cobalt raq simply because its what they know.
