Hello, I run an online homewares store, currently around 200 orders per month. We have been using YODEL until recently but have issues with not many local stores taking this volume of parcels. Who do you recommend sending with when you are sending 50+ per week?

You wont get much of a different level of service between any of them they all have bad preforming depots and good depots
I would stick with Yodel but I cant understand why nobody has advised you have a collection from your warehouse every afternoon that is what you really should be doing with this volume

Thank you for your reply. When I spoke with yodel they advised their threshold for collection from depot is over 100 orders per week so we are still a way off. I think we Are at a bit of an in between stage where it feels like a lot to be taking to a little corner shop but aren't quite big enough for a collection. Hopefully Q4 will mean we meet the threshold.

would you consider a 3pl? Naturally you would be able to get more competitive courier rates? If so, I can always have a conversation with you on this?

Depending on the size of your parcels I would personally try Evri if cost is a key factor. If not DPD is the best option. I would also advise contacting a company called GFS. They offer multiple couriers and offered better prices than going direct to the couriers. They also smooth out the poor customer service from Evri.

You could use an online reseller like parcelmonkey.co.uk or parcel2go.com, alternatively you could engage someone like The Delivery Group who wholesale courier services and can facilitate collections for you.

As surprising as it may sound to many, I have nothing but singing praises to ParcelForce. For background, I run my own business since 2019, but have been working with shipping parcel on a daily basis and couriers in general since 2013.

We moved from DPD Local about 8 months ago because they've put up our prices drastically (i theorise that they wanted rid of our business due to the route changing, or similar logistic issues).
We ship 40-80 parcels per month, usually bigger sized parcel in region of 10-20 kg, PC's, laptops, etc. But honestly, not a single problem, local depot people and employees I had to contact over the phone were nothing short of amazing service. And on top of all these, they are actually significantly cheaper than DPD.
You can either have an ad-hoc collection (booked for NBD Mon- Fri before midnight, for next day collection, or a prescheduled collection every business day.

As a second option, and I think as mentioned above, I would give EVRI a try, they are MUCH better than their general reputation in my opinion.

Alongside our manufacturing business, for the last 15 years, we have been running an e-commerce business with orders filtering through from our websites and other major platforms on average our monthly orders are around 1800 majority of them fall into 1st class large letter post format with average weights of 250 grams which cost us around £1.60 by end larger parcels upto 2 kg average weight cost us £3.75 with tracked 24 post within UK by ROYAL MAIL.

Since spending more than 15K annually we get free collection.

Before using Tracked 24 click & drop RM service we use to send larger parcels within the UK by 3rd party couriers "Transglobal" on a next-day service with free collection.

Depending on the size and weight of your parcels it may be worthwhile to explore ROYAL MAIL click and drop service.


With standard 1st class CLICK & DROP large letter post it benefits from one-way tracking which is added benefit, confirmation on delivery or failed delivery can be verified online.

Tracked 24 post benefits with full tracking and is one the economical and safest delivery option for parcels sent within the UK.
