My other half has been offered some courier work. No worries there but, could you help with any recomendations to which van to buy.
Just had a look and wondered if you guys out there could give any tips.
Diesel with double back doors we assume, was thinking about £6000.00 spend and pay pmonth hp/lease.
Auto or manual? Plylining?
Sorry to sound so dim but we realised that neither of us have ever bought a 'white van' before:D

The best for fuel economy and payload in the small van sector seems to be the Peugeot Bipper 60mpg 610kg

Before spending a ton of money be sure you get hire and reward insurance quotes along with public liability and goods in transit , it's increased a lot in the last 2 years

We have a Citroen Nemo which is the same van. Ours is diesel and does nothing like the mpg you mention.

It's also has quite a short load length.

After doing this work for many years, and seeing the way it has gone since, I think I would now just set fire to my money and save the grief.

I'd have to say the Ford Transit Connect.

Larger than most small vans, yet still a small van... :D

As previously mentioned though, it really depends on the load, if it's larger items then go with a Transit Van, if it's smaller then anything that's of a reasonable size is obvious. :)

Fuel consumption is your major concern. you will spend more on fuel in a year than the van is going to cost you.

The Connect is relatively thirsty, a Berlingo ( which will be good for 3 - 400,000 miles)will achieve 50 mpg driven sensible and legally travel at car speeds on dual carriageways whereas a Connect is restricted to 60 mph on dual carriageway because it is a heavier (over 2 tonne) vehicle.

I would recommend hiring a van from a specialist, then you can change the van whenever required, or simply hand it back if not required, and obtain a replacement one within an hour or two if necessary.

Little point laying out a lot of money only to find not enough work is obtained, you can always buy after a while if you feel it is necessary.

I've just been looking round the small van market, of quoted mpg and payload the bipper and it's sisters seem to offer the best mpg/ payload

I run an iveco daily pickup, how it's driven affects the fuel consumption considerably , indicated 75mph 23mpg ' stick to 56 with the trucks and it's 31mpg

Tell me about it, my insurance last year was £900 GIT PL hire or reward, this year the cheapest I could find was £1550

The pallet boys have killed it with their £50 a pallet

I wouldn't start again unless I had a contract in place with a guaranteed minimum monthly income.

I've been looking at companies advertising small van work offering 55p per loaded mile
