Courier query

Hi guys

I'm in the process of researching setting up a courier company. However it worries me when looking online and at other forums the amount of claims/fraudulent claims against parcels. There's cases where even with a signature from the recipient some people have still claimed they've never received it and refunds or replacements have been given, this is worryingly growing.

This brings me onto an idea or possible one that may help reduce this for my company, if I was to have an in car camera recording door deliveries would this be allowed? I'm aware it seems a strange idea but this could also protect drivers against wrongful loss claims and maybe even reduce insurance. Surely nothing is better than video proof?

Also this could be used to deliver to a neighbour on their behalf if the customer is out (obviously with the neighbour also signing they are holding it for them) reducing the cost of return visits or redelivery attempts

What are your thoughts?

Thanks

Hi,

City Link already uses photographic evidence for failed collections. They'll take a photo of the door and this records the time to show that they were there. This also means we can say 'it was a blue door, photo taken at 10.25' to offer the customer trust too that a driver did turn up, say they didn't hear them etc.

I think its really good what city link do.
Its a shame you have to go to extremes though as images for proof as the public can lie.
Just cover yourself with photographic image of the document and receiving signature. Some couriers have electronic system for proof of signature with the time on. Cover yourself. But alot of public are genuine.

Im not really sure what you mean by your statement starting a courier company unless you are investing Multi Billions of pounds in a new household name infactructure to sink City Link Or UPS this type of thing will not even be an issue for you.

The issue you have highlighted is almost non exsistent as far a smaller courier companies are concerned . In reality this is not even a massive issue in the industry as a whole .The fact of the matter is there are just so many parcels transaction not just everyday but every Hour !! That these problems will happen but it is a fraction of a precent !!!
And yes some of the people on here have been victims of these problems :)
If you pay £6.99 for a service you should only expect £6.99 worth of service and aftersales care !!!

Got me thinking... finger printing, eye recognition or DNA sample would certainly be proof.

Your light hearted post throws up an intreasting point. Up untill the google earth pictures ect . Non of these companies used photagraphy as it could possibly break the data protection act and have human right implications !

I'm aware it's a small issue but it seems it's growing and obviously it has more of an impact on a smaller business when this does happen. As I said even with their signature on the signature cards there have been cases where people are still adamant they havnt received their items and police/crime documents have been issued?
How does your company deal with the issue? (if you have any) Surely with photography as well this could also help with neighbour deliveries if the customer is out also? As companies don't want to be regularly returning to re deliver and the customer wants their item and not having to go to the depot? - obviously with the correct paper work in place also
