Just letting off steam!
13 days ago I transferred my business telephone and broadband services to BT.
It took BT two days to get the broadband working – this failed after 6 hours
Two days later they got it working again – this failed after 36 hours.
Telephone line also started to crackle and become unusable.
Appointment booked for engineer – did not turn up!
Promised a telephone call to arrange new appointment – no call received.
Phoned and arranged another appointment for engineer – did not turn up (claimed he did but no answer – I was sitting 2m away from door and 1m away for door bell!)
Phoned and was promised a call back first thing in the morning (Saturday) no call by 10.40 so called and was told first the available appointment for engineer is Monday.

What a c...p service!
Lost 3 x half day business waiting for engineers.
Lost 13 days broadband service – so had to cancel my students online mentoring during this time.

Has anybody else suffered this level of poor service from BT?

One thing that may help - a common problem with BT broadband is that their own connection management software conflicts with the microsoft connection manager and can cause you to lose connection regularly.

Open up your task manager and look for an application called somethign like MacApp....... or MacAff.... (sorry, can't remember the full title!) This is the bugger that causes all the problems. Disable this program and you should be fine.

If it does fix it, uninstall it fully (son't cause any probs - can always re-install from CD if necessary.

Hope it helps.

While I am not a great fan of their customer service, the actual product Virgin Media offer in fibre-optic cable areas is very strong and reliable. What bothers me is that they are descended from NTL, which was a former nationalised company. When they went private they got the right along with other companies to dig up all the roads and put in the new infrastructure for future communications. But as far as I am aware, only Virgin Media (as the new owner of all the conglomerated cable companies) has the right to use what is a fundamental part of our infrastructure.

So once again we have a monopoly and BT and all the other services are forced to use the old copper wire infrastructure, which is inferior in terms of its capabilities and reliability, and thus they offer a much poorer service.
