Hi,

I have posted this request before but have been let down by a web designer who promised the earth but has failed to deliver.

I have owned my Mobile Phone retail business since 1996 and mainly deal with TMobile, but can connect to any network, so need flexibilty. I also provide accessories and Unlocking services.

A website that I have been looking at is www.fonehouse.co.uk and would like something similar.

For my current website, It usually comes top of the search engines without having to pay. I used to use Adwords and Overture, but have decided that a lot of my customers like the fact I am retail based, so come top of the search engines for the County I am based in.

I have even come out of Yellow Pages and Thomsons as I get a lot of Business through the website which instigates a call to me and a visit to my shop.

My current site is very simple and produced by me with no experience using Dreamweaver. My domain and Hosting is registered with FastHosts, and would like my site to remain on Fasthosts. www.completecomms.co.uk

I would like it template based where I an update my own offers myself easily. I am busy in my shop so want to be able to update in the evening.

I currently go through an affiliate site for my contracts, as you will see on my site but would prefer to do the contract side myself.

If anyone can pm me with what you can offer, and any examples.

Many thanks.

I get exactly the same package as Fonehouse, and they keep contacting me to become one of their franchises. I want to remain independant and in control, but grow my business. I have taken it as far as I can in my retail outlet.

I would also require a B2B section.

I just really want to have a professional looking site where I can add more credability to my Business.

I would also like to diversify, and have an account with one of the largest IT and Electronic product distributors and have an account whereby I can also dropship.

Hi,

I'd be happy to provide a quote for this. Please take a look at my website and drop me a message if you're interested.

As with previous posters though I'm not entirely clear on what it is you want- is this a webshop where people can buy online, or just an online catalogue? Is the content and structure going to be the same as your current site with just an update to the design, or does the whole thing need to change?

I could build you something similar to the fonehouse example you gave. The text would be editable by yourself, however since the site is very heavy on images it would probably need ongoing updates to be done by a designer.

Thanks,
Michael

Why? was there a spec? did you change your mind? - The Spec was the same as I put on here. The designer just could not deliver after saying it could be done.

what words, phrases does it come top for? Thats like asking CocaCola to reveal thier secret ingredient. The person/company who I choose to re-build my website will obviously be privvy to that info.

can you provide exactly what you want? the number of pages, the functionality ?what is the shop goingh to sell? how many product etc etc...
- As I am a mobile phone retailer, I would like to sell mobile phones with contracts and ancillary products, such as accessories and unlocking. I would also like to have a B2B section which is extremely informative and offers the chance for me to provide Sole Traders, Ltd, PLC and charities with Business offers that can both offer high value and quality packages.

Would probably have a seperate section on the main site, such as completecomms.co.uk/business

I would ultimately like the site to be Clear and Easy to navigate, and not as Picture Intensive as the Fonehouse example I have given.

How the site would work would be as follows:

Home Page - with links to different sections probably across the top, under the logo and Vertically on the left of the page.

On the Home page, there should be a short decription of the services I can provide and a Best Offers section, such as the Fonehouse example or http://completecomms.e2save.com/

For Contract Handsets - Probably the most difficult part.

I need to be able to fully update the update the offers as easily as possible and upload the nessessary pictures, prices, and wording for each offer.

There will also be a page listing the Network which will have a Tariff chooser (approx 12 tariffs with a choice of 2 or 3 add-ons such as Mibile Internet / Blackberry / Insurance) which then leads to a handset chooser which then gives a cost of the package on the right hand side of the page. A lot of the options will be at no initial cost to the customer, as phones are given away free on certain tariffs, but if someone wanted for example a Nokia N96 on a £15 per month package, then the cost of the handset may be £249, which the site would have to take a pre-authorisation for, leading to full authorisation once the credit check has been completed, and the handset is being sent out. If a handset is free of charge initially an authorisation for £2 needs to be taken from thier card, which is AVS checked, which is refunded on successful processing of the order or if the order is declined.

Once a customer chooses the Tariff and then the handset, they would have to be put through to an order form, whereby they have to input thier Full Name, DOB, last 3 years address history, Contact details, Bank details, How long employed, Marital status, How long at current address etc. They would then input thier Card details which would be taken by http://www.hsbc.co.uk/1/2/business/...ssionid=0000Z0UN8Ic-7ExLL6HgO47NwIW:12ntf16af which I already have the facility. They would also have to click a tick box to say that they have read and understood my terms and conditions, the Networks Ts & C's and if Insurance is taken, The Insurance Companies T's & C's.

The form with all of the credit check information will need to be emailed to me in a clear format, whereby I can then arrange a credit check with Network, and then once approved email the buyer back with an Order Confirmation and dispatch details.

I would also like pages and links to pages which detail Each Handset Manufacturer, such as TMobile, Nokia, Samsung, LG, SonyEricsson, Blackberry, where you can choose a handset first and then the Network/Tariff afterwards.

If you look at http://completecomms.e2save.com/contract-mobile-phones?s=ln&PHPSESSID=i2n68rgcd26k2l61ic5j9frmr2, you will see what I am talking about.

I would like additional pages to the above site listing Unlocking Facilities and prices, and a seperate Business section. The Business section could be like http://www.scancom.co.uk/

The Hosting I have is listed Here: http://www.fasthosts.co.uk/hosting/windows-business/full-details/

The reason I am dubious about hosting on the developers servers, is that I have a friend who spent over £3K on his site and the developer who owned the WebSpace and the Domain ceased trading, leading to my friend having to liase with Nominet and a new developer to get his site back up and running.

My domain has been registered to me for the last 9 years and I would like it to remain that way.

I hope this answers some queries you have and thanks to all that have contacted me so far. I will have a look through all the responses and contact you if you can show me that you can provide what I require at a reasonable price, as quickly as possible.

Ps: My email address is [email protected]

Thanks to all.

Okay well I've determined that the above screenshot was taken from Internet Explorer 8, which is still unreleased and in beta, hence the cause of your problem.
Thanks,
Michael

It looks more likely to be a problem with your computer than with my website, as it doesn't look like that for anyone else.

Have you tried uninstalling all those toolbars? They're probably what's messing around with it.

I am not a professional but i think fonehouse.co.uk is database and data feed driven site. they get data from all affiliated networks and put on their site.

Hi, I know for a fact that they do their own offers.

Also I have now listed the majority of things I would like on the website but I have only received one Proposal which has been provided in PDF format listing timescales, breakdown of the work to be done, final costings and payment terms, together with existing work that has been produced.

If it had come from a UK based company I would have probably snapped it up, but it was from an Indian Based company and I would like to have UK Contact and addresses.

I have received a lot of UK pm's/emails but only a couple actually give me a costing and timescale, which I am surprised about.

Just saying here is what I have done and call me if you are interested is great, but I need a full quotation and proposal.

I am having a meeting with TMobile and Blackberry in about 20 minutes and would have liked to have gone to them with the breakdowns of what can be done as they have marketing budgets that could have helped.

Before someone can adequately quote for an ecommerce site they need to know specifics of what is involved. They need to be able to calculate how much time will be spent on designing and coding it, whether data input is required, what payment processors will be used, what type of client is accessing the site, how fulfillment is being done ......and so on.

Plus, whilst Fasthosts is a great company, it is not particularly wonderful for hosting a full blown ecommerce site.

You need a lot more consultation than you think you need if you want to put together a successful online shop.

You cannot just ask for a ballpark figure because that is exactly what you will get. Now let me stick my thumb out of the window, check which way the wind is blowing and give you a quote....hmm... £5000 should do it nicely. But be warned, if the brief changes then this price may go up or down.

Seriously, give people a proper specification and ask them to quote based around that and I think you will get proper prices

:)

So you didn't get my PM then?

Hi.

Yours was one of the couple I mentioned in the next paragraph on that post.

It is appreciated.

I will be having a look through the proposals today and maybe asking a few more questions as i wish to get this right.

In this current climate I am investing in my business and hoping to speculate to accumalate and need someone I can work with, where we both know where we stand.

Attitude and customer service is important nowadays and piece of mind so please excuse me for being a bit finicky, but I need flexibility as if it all works out then I need a good long term relationship with my Web designer, and not someone who will suck their teeth when an amendmant is required and say "that's going to cost you".

Many thanks for all comments.

That' exactly what we look for - long term relationships, hence the "partnership" in our company name. Please call me regarding the PM I sent you and I'll explain more.
