Costs for a website

Apologies if this is in the wrong section and please dont slaughter me because I know I have posted lots of different ideas on here.

I was wondering how much it would cost to have an auction site like auctionair.co.uk

I have a specific niche in mind and have the suppliers I need. I want to charge £x a bid and the winner pays for the price they have bid. Not sure whether to ask people to buy bundles of bids i.e £10 for 5 bids or just charge a set price per bid, i.e. this auction is £5 per bid and then they have to pay the final bid price.

If anybody could give me an estimate as to the cost of a site like this it would be much appreciated.

looks like that website cost about a fiver to make. Check out premiumpress.com I know they have an auction theme about to be launched for $79, which will probably do what you require.

I wont do it for 2 main reasons.

1. Developing from scratch costs a lot more then off the shelf product.

2. Time required to debug the code developed off shore and then do the security tests take so long that usually it out run the benefits.

So my suggestion again would be to buy a ready to go product.

no, costs about £500, even less in some cases. I searched google for Penny Auction Script and the first result was selling it for $795, secon for $1200, third for $749 so I dont see that 10k+ for something that is no longer a unique idea. there are hundreds of such sites live.

Thats a skin template at $600 and then you have to buy the packed to operate it, a furthe $1,000 and then put it all together, ad hosting, you are talking atleast $3,000 at cost. Website developer will have to programme it.
Then you have to do seo marketing.
There are a few more things, but the £5,00 is already nearer £5,000

You forgot £3500 a month sexy receptionist, £4000 a month office, £500 a month phone bill because you will make a lot of calls to your friends.
A dedicated server costs as low as 50 euro (I cannot post links here but feel free to PM me), do your own template and I was unable to understand where did that further $1000 came form to start.

Things like SEO, product costs, marketing on TV etc will cost anyway regardless of you buy an off the shelf product or get it developed from scratch.

I am not from any company and all I was saying (which I love to say on every forum I am on) that if something is available as a script/software do not get started from scratch unless you are a tycoon as if funds do not matter then there are several other things in debate that I have skipped thinking tycoons usually do not look for sites on forums.

I am sorry I am really being very chatty lol but all I wanted to say that the cost to get it developed 10k+ and buying off the shelf have a major difference in between. However, this in no way is the business cost. Business costs will include marketing budget, products price budget when low on traffic, staff budget, office budget and probably a lot more that you will find out when you will start getting into this business.
I have never ran this type of business but have used a site like this called flutteroo co uk and won a couple of items.

It's not the site that will cost you the money! its all the research that goes in to a site that makes it work for you... just spending cash on a website will not make it work. I have seen 30k sites that get no traffic because there was no planning behind them....
