Corporation Tax Activation Code Letter

Hi all,

I am new to the business world and so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have recently registered my company and when setting up through companies house online, I chose the option that I was not currently trading.

At the start of this month, I received a letter with an activation code for corporation tax. When going to register this online, the website states:

"I want to tell HMRC that I am in business and need to register for a new tax or tell HMRC that the company is now active"

By signing up to this service, my understanding is that I would be notifying that I am an active company. Am I correct in this assumption?

I am currently only setting up my company whilst I get my license needed for my nature of work. Due to this all that I have done thus far is open a business bank account, though I have not put any funds in the account.

Thanks in advance!

Or don't bother activating it. I have been running my business for 8 years and only this year activated corporation tax on my portal, just because I was bored and wanted to check the payment I made had been registered. Previous years I just paid to the account provided.

This year I paid slightly early rather than waiting to the dead line. To my horror, I found my account in credit by 29p because of interest on the slightly early payment :)
