Hi All

Kimrunner has mentioned several times about learning marketing and copywriting. This interests me alot but as with most things, its always important to get other peoples views before taking on something if you have no experience in it.

I saw this about , but no idea if its worth it http://www.inst.org/copy/

As a IT engineer about to expand to evening work as well as my main job, i get people looking to learn about PC Support and the workings and some provail and some get totally confused and realise its not for them.

As a full time employee of a large company , I cant afford to take time out to do a degree or move jobs down to a salary where i wouldnt be able to afford my mortgage, let alone the bills.

Anyone got any advise on moving direction .. or is marketing and copywriting that hard to learn, im better off with IT.

Many Thanks

Rob

Rob - learn it as you go along -

But dont mess with anyone except the best. By that I mean study the top league direct marketing copywriters, subscribe to their lists.

Guys like halbert, fortin , carleton, nicholas, karbo, sugarman, benchenvanga, roheleder, galletti, mcfall

If you dont believe me ask alan forest smith on this forum. Most ad agencies havent got a clue about direct marketing copywriting

Get hold of a copy of "scientific advertising" by hopkins.

Subscribe to business opps ads in newspapers , so get their advertising
Build a swipe file of stuff that impresses you

Now. You dont have to order stuff from me.

But I will PM you a link from a website presently in massive overhaul, in which I am offering a 3 DVD introduction to direct market copy, by 3 of the best in the game, and I will include a copy of scientific advertising,

And heres the deal - if you are willing to paypal just £37.00 to me, I will do the course for that rather than the normal £47 that you would pay if you ordered it from the site.

Or if you order from the website and pay the £47, I will also chuck in a copy of robert colliers letterbook which would cost you more than that if you bought it separately.

Those two books are old, but every top copywriter still talks about them and is inspired by them.
Gary halberts "dollar bill letter" was taken and adapted from the "nickel letter" way back then

I will help you , all you have to do is ask - but first try the ideas in my ebook. Experience success on the internet. If you had started when I sent it to you, you could have earned hundreds by now.

And don't forget probably the most significant copywriter of the last century, Robert Collier, I have just bagged a copy (after trying for ages) of his 1937 work entitled 'The Letter Book' don't make the mistake of thinking its out of date, virtually every significant and successful copywriter since will have read that book.
