I intend to host a marathon event in a foreign country ( its former British colony and its legal structure is similar to UK's).

Not sure which of the above (other than trademark) I should register to protect this event that will be held annually.

I want my company to have the rights to host the event on annual basis

Should I just register Intellectual Property of the event or I need to register something else?

1. IP (intellectual property) is just a blanket term for all of the different forms of IP, such as Copyright, Trademarks etc.
2. You have to register each one separately - except see point 4.
3. For an event the only IP you really need to secure is the name/logo, which would be covered by Trademark registration.
4. You said the location has similar laws to the UK. If that is the case there may be no formal registration for Copyrights - there certainly isn't in the UK or Hong Kong.

How about having Intellectual Rights instead of Intellectual property? basically I want my company to have exclusive rights to host an event namedxxxx Marathon/xxxx International Marathon and xxxx Half Marathon without the worry of competition, at least for a specific period of time. Understandably, these rights can include all sorts of things (image, logos, etc) I'm also aware that anyone can host a Marathon event in that country but I want us to protect the use of the words xxx marathon or xxxx half marathon : Preferably if these rights are enforced by a court via a lawsuit if a competitor comes and steal the our names, logos and / or take the credit for it...

Same thing - as I said above just an umbrella term for several different rights.

As I said above logo/name/logo image protected by Trademark law. You should find a Trademark/IP lawyer in the country you intend to stage the event and get them to register it.
