I think this must happen in every or most industry but mainly small businesses or small businesses with say 3-5 workers.

As a small businesses with low start up costs say few hundred for few leaflets and advertising material its pretty much low barriers to entry. Especially for businesses such as cleaning, valeting, leafleting, removals etc these are all typically 1 man or small team of workers which require not so much qualifications ( although i do know that it does require skill but to the consumer not experienced in any of these trades its "low skilled" ) but just a hard graft and work ethic.

Now in a scenario like this, whilst you send out the workers to clean or valet the cars or leaflet the streets you just pay them a wage whilst you can sit ? relax? drive more customers? anything you wish with still a profit coming in once the workers have completed this job.

What i was thinking is, because there is such a low over heads and low start up costs, why would someone want to work for you when they could do it themselves? They will have the knowledge of how it works, the customers who uses your services etc

Is this just one of the those things....?

It is just one of those things... But what you must remember is that not everyone wants to be a boss or run a company. Many want to go to work, get paid and go home - not having any of the pressure of worrying about staff, getting work, dealing with payroll etc etc...

Most businesses will be started by someone who has had some experience in that sector, or has experience in running a business previously.

Everyone is different, and wants different things.
