contacting builder merchants

I am selling a product 'Pencilpal' which is a pencil/pen on a retractable reel which attaches to your trousr loop, basically it stops all that time searching for your pencil which you misplace whilst tiling, pumbing, building, DIY etc. I am already in a few local independent DIY shops but I want to get in more nationwide merchants, to get in the local one I visited them but now I intend to make phone calls. I have also sold a few to users of this forum, if you look in ' trades' section you should some feedback on the product listed under 'tradesman feedback'.
I also aim at golfers which has been successful over the summer but the golf season is coming to a close so i want to aim at trades during the winter months. More info on Pencilpal is availble on my website.
Thanks

The major builders merchants do not purchase at local level they have buyers at HQ and agree deals on a national basis, they will be looking for some major insentives to take your product on board so you will need to have some good ideas to put in front of them.

Good luck:D

Aye tis true so you need to make inroads with them there !

Try calling your local BM and ask them for the HQ number and then ask to speak to someone in Purchasing - go from there for a start.....

The good news is that it is small in terms of shelf space, so that is in your favour :)

Just ring up and ask them ;if they can let you know who deals with the buying for their branch. Instantly they will tell you it is local or national, they might put you through to the buyer who can only order stock rather than source products, but that is a good place to be.
