Any posts connected with the topic will be appreciated - thanks in advance for help...

We are planning to open the construction company operating in construction business in s.wales(from Newport - Swansea).
There would be 2 people in the company. 1 person responisble for organisation (IT + MBA degree) + 1 person - sepcialist 20years experience in a construction field -
over 10 years in Germany(high standarts). Services offered would involve: Wall & Flooring Tiling,Plumbing, all Pastering,K-rendering,Dry lining, Painting & Decorating.

Could you please give me some suggestions connected with entering the market!
Is it good time to enter the market taking into consideratiom current situation (credit crunch, recession)?
Are there any grants available for the starters (graduate students) - which are worth claiming?
Is the partnership the best option to start the company(maybe 2 selfemployed people or LTD?)
What kind of price strategy would be the best to enter the market?
(people are mostly price orientated at the moment,)
Are there any construction services on demand at the moment?
Is there any potential for some services at the moment?
Are there any other regions in UK proper for starting that kind of business? (big demand, small competition)?

Current decision is to start as partnership than if everything goes ok - transform into LTD.
Strong aspeckt would be IT&MArketing - website, SEO, Adwords, etc.
High quality service, tools, machines, van, transparency in service.

Any suggestions, clues will be appreciated.
My emai address is ojarex11 at yahoo dot com
Thak you in advance for your help.

I have many clients in the construction industry, only about 40% are currently working due to the current economic climate. Of those that are working, most are finding mainly private work is readily available and some have taken alternative work to supplement their income (such as electricians working as sky installation engineers).

If there was a market at present, then it wouldn't be online. Wales is the most people network orientated place I have ever been, and online just don't work - its who you know.

What market is there at present is in the private sector, or the housing associations

Come back in 6+ months time, and expect to network - heavily.

Hi There

I work for a company which deals day to day in credit reports, we also have numerous requests for insurance of construction and we cannot provide it because of the current climate. The interest in this has tripled in the last few months and i have a feelings things will not be any better for some time, whatever you do make sure you know the company you are dealing with and thoroughly check out their background before taking the plunge, If you would like to take a look at a free report before you do busines, give me a call, i will be happy to oblige.

That's a lot of services from an MBA graduate and someone with experience in German construction?
I think the days of such an operation being able to make a viable business are long gone to be honest?

I think now's the worst possible time to enter construction if you're going after projects of any size (still work in private households as others mention), unless there's some massive reason for what work there is to come running to your new company.

Just look at the number of construction firms laying off staff.

Look at the decline in the number of construction jobs advertised.

Ask some property developers if they're still spending or if they're waiting until the market picks up.

Look at the posts on this thread which all say "Don't do it." Those who do encourage you, seem to be saying, "Start up and would you like to buy a ... from us?"

Those who start up now and who survive are likely to be exceptional companies with something truly remarkable about them. If you can get people talking and get what little work there is flowing in your direction, go for it. If you're "just another service business" who needs to get some projects under your belt before you start getting decent projects, I'd hold fire.

Just my gut feeling! What are you both doing at the minute?

Hello

In construction you may want to consider being Ltd from the start and I kid you not VET every firm you deal with as everything comes down to getting paid.

Its tougher out there in that game than most at present, good luck and mind me if you get late payers and non payers.

cheers
