Confused about corporation tax return

I recently contacted an accountant to fill my company accounts for my first year. Everything was handled by the accountant, the accounts were sent to Companies House. I have the CT600 saved and everything looks correct, no problem here. I don't owe any corporation tax for this year.

A few days ago I received a letter from HM Revenue & Customs asking me to confirm my company status for Corporation Tax. It says to visit gov.uk and use my gateway ID to access the account and confirm that my company is active (when I formed the company I said the company wasn't going to be active)
If I access the HM Revenue & Custom system I can see my UTR reference number, it says I don't have anything to pay and on the section Your Returns there is a link that says You may have returns to complete.
I am a bit confused if I have to send any corporation tax return or not, as the system is quite confusing.
My accountant says that the letter could've been sent before they submitted the accounts and everything should be sorted, but I am wondering is there anything else I should do on my end?

I apologise if my words are a bit confusing but I am new to all of this!
Thanks in advance

Our taxes pay for a lot of paper. Over time you will get a feel for what types of needless correspondence from HM gov can go straight in the bin. I get these letters too, after all has been said and done and filed. They get get binned.

When I retire I might file a case against the ONS for years of harassment by mail too. "Random" surveys have followed me around like a bad smell since I had the unwise inclination to fill a few in once upon a time. Careful to never allow a bureaucrat to get this teeth into you, they don't let go.

Have you copied your accountant in on the letter, I would then follow his advice.
Yes I sent them the letter, I think everything is fine and they have in their records that my company is active.
What I am wondering is, do I have to send the corporation tax return to HM Revenue
& Customs even though there is nothing to pay? I understand there is an option to submit the accounts and corporation tax return at the same time (which I think that's what my accountant did)

As I mentioned above send a copy of the letter over to your accountant and get them to confirm all is ok, after all its what you pay them for.

A silly question your post says the accounts were sent to CH ....... I assume they did send them to HMRC ?
I understand that was the case. The accountant asked me for some details, and if I check my company info on HMRC I can see the filling history.

Here is my silly question, why you can access 2 different places, one is webfilling and the other one is with in gov.uk with my Government Gateway user ID?

Are you sure it wasn't a request for the confirmation statement for Companies house?

    'Webfiling' is a CH service.

Remember there is quite a lag between year end and when paperwork must be filed and payments made.

There is not payment due on my end.
I did my own confirmation statement on webfilling.

I am probably overthinking this and they sent me a letter at the same time my accounts were filled and the letter was already sent.

Companies House (CH) and HMRC are two entirely different things. You (your accountant) send a copy of the accounts to CH. HMRC get the Tax Return and a copy of the accounts.

If the HMRC login shows that the returns have been filed then all is well.
