Competition for Graphic Designers!

I have sof ar used two different places for advertising design and noby has hit the sweetspot yet. Does anyone on here want to have a go at doing me a magazine advert and if I use it in the next few months you will receive £50 voucher for my iPod accessory store. If somene can do a good design I will choose it straight away and give you the code for the voucher.

If anyone is interested please PM me and I will explain what I want to come across in the advert.

I think that IF you want to get any interest at all you will need to show everyone your ipod store first so they can see that it exists and that they might like something from it.

The other option is to try a 3rd design agency to see if they can come up with something better for you.

In my honest and brutal opinion - its not really a competition for designers at all, more of away for you to get a designer to work for free. But maybe I have misunderstood something so my apologies in advance.

Not a way to get something for free. The designer will get free stuff from my store and also get a link from my store to their website which if we get a lot of hits may direct good business there way especially if I say they are responsible for our advertising design. I've paid out over 1k so far on advert design I've had enough of trusting more and more people.

Perhaps you're going to the wrong people.

Why not find a designer who's so confident in their skills that they don't ask for a penny until you're happy? :wink:

All have taken payment after fiinishing the design, they just go on and on and still don't produce good enough. I'll see what people on here come up with.

I see what you mean but in that case they have never finished the design for you because in my book the design isnt finished until you are completely satisfied.

For the future, make sure your designer, as Eagle says, doesnt want to be paid until after they have produced something that you love and includes unlimited modifications.

Take a good look around their portfolios too and ask them about their experience.

Have you actually tried to go back to the designer and complained about the design? And agreeing with Eagle, why would you sign off something that you werent happy with?

Also, does anyone else think that is a bit excessive for one advert??? Our rates (Redwelly not YEM) would come nowhere near £1k for one advert - our junior designer comes up with fantastic concepts and really makes ads work for our clients. Working to that cost and our studio rates, she would be spending more than half the week on one advert - and I can assure you, if she was spending over half of the week on one ad, she wouldn't be in the job long!

Not sure that you'll get anyone to do a freebie (designers don't work for free as the consensus seems to be - am I right Eagle/Jacqui?) but if you are willing to pay, we would be happy to discuss your brief, as I'm sure Eagle & Jacqui would too - why not view our sites and portfolios. Being blunt, someone doing a freebie, isnot going to get you the best, and you would still be unhappy

I haven't signed anyhting off does that mena I can ask for alterations, basically I had a magazine deadline for a couple of mags so they did it in one day made a couple of alterations. The banner and flyer dsign they will have longer to do.

I would only consider paying a good amount for another designer if they had shown me advertising they had designed for other etailers or mail order companies so far I have not seen any from anyone else.

It really depends on your contract as to whether you can make alterations - definately do not sign anything off if you are not happy with it, even if the designer is putting pressure on - also, if you haven't signed anything off, then you shouldn't have had to pay the final invoice - check your contract!

You only have to ask to see a companies portfolio to see what work they are capable of. Redwelly supplies the majority of ads for YEM and have converted many into clients based on the initial advertisement - our portfolio is online (as are most designers on here) although we are currenly updating it so it doesn't have our most recent stuff on.
