Company name

Its christmas day and the its the day I bite the bullet and start my own company.

I am going to manufacture mining equipment for the worldwide market, obviously I will have competitors in the same field. And typically the name for my company is similar to one that already exists in another country.

Obviously the name is fairly important as it will be the base name for my web site.

How close to the knuckle do you think I can operate?

I suppose the main differences between that company and mine be will be
that I will be manufacturing and they are agents for other peoples equipment.

An example of name clashing would be apple verses appleby.

Sorry this post is badly written, the page keeps locking up and editting is a nightmare.

You can have any website name , it does not have to be same as company name. Considering the market i would suggest go for a different unique name and build your reputation. Your special customer would be after quality not the name, once you establish trust you will have brand of your own.

choose a name that evokes emotions

AND get the same DOT COM.

People have tooooooooo much to remember today.

And their memories are getting worse.

buy both domain names, .com and .co.uk as well. Make site on one and redirect other one to site

I think it's absolutely fantastic that you've decided to start up a company manufacturing (no less) mining equipment to compete (from scratch no less) in the worldwide mining market.

I'm so glad to see that people have seen fit to give their (apparently) valuable time to assist you in this venture, which has advanced (since the idea occurred to you over christmas dinner) to the huge choice of a web name.

Well done boys! Glad to see you can differentiate from the ones to take seriously and the ones to not bother with. I'm proud of you guys and will retain this knowledge to help me in future dealings with you as it speaks volumes about your powers of judgement.

I would guess that the mining equipment start up would be a "rock hammer"... ( remember " The Shawshank redemption)

No I wont be building rock drills. A good friend of mine is reconditioning older air operated air drills for mining and doing rather well too.

Dont get too hung up on my products, they are simple and well proven. Its just the buisiness bit I am useless at.

I have decided to go with a dot net as my products as the market is not exactly flooded with competitors so I can rely on key words I hope.

Progress is slower than I imagined, however I think I now have everything in place for manufacture.

As a side line I plan on importing some goods from india, packaging them into a product / system and selling on to end customer, nice and simple.

I have found the import taxation catagory and its zero, so there's a good start. I would need to use a frieght forwarder whom I pay to cover the VAT at 20%.

Is that it for importing then? No licences or anything required? Have I overlooked anything here, seems far to easy.

Exporting - Only the export duty to pay at 20%.

Again is it as easy as that?

Just searching through my old email account and found a link to some replys to this post - Christmas day 2012 - I am delighted to say I am still in buisiness and we are now in our third factory having outgrown the first two. It wasnt easy but then it wasnt really that difficult either. Cheers SplendiferousII
