Hi,
I'd appreciate your advice....I want to register a company on Companies House website. Does it matter if I call my store a slightly different name than name that I have registered my business with?
For example.....I register my company name as Selling T-shirts Partners Ltd, but then I want to call my store Selling T-shirts. Is that allowed?

You can trade under any name you desire, the only requirements are that you advertise that your trading under that name by having some sort of tag line:

BobTheBuilder Construction is a trade name of Selling T-shirts Partners Ltd.

You will also have to declare the official company details (name, co number etc) on most trade name documents, normally done as a footnote.

There are a few downsides however, banks can tend to moan about it yes, they have your account under Selling T-shirts Partners Ltd yet your receiving payments for a different company, it gets confusing and they don't like it.

Going off what you say you want to trade under though, there shouldn't be any problems, its close enough to your registered name that it's not that difficult to put 2 and 2 together, just remember to inform people making payments to include the entire company name, not the shortened version, that'll help keep the bank happy.
