Hello, everyone.

I have a few business questions.
Me and my business partner registered a limited company a while ago. I'm considering starting another one on my own. Since the name is going to be quite long, can I registrr the full name with Companies House but trade by using only the abbreviations? The first letter of each word in the full name? What steps do I need to take? Do I register the abbreviated name as a trading name or a trademark? (example: Silly Company Name Ltd. to be SCN) How does it work?
And I'm planning to make the current company a subsidiary to the new one (as I am majority shareholder with 80%). Do I issue new shares for the new company or do I sell my current shares to my new company? Please don't ask why, I have my reasons. Thanks

Re: question 1.

Well, in practical terms, it might work like this:

1. You register 'Silly Company Name Ltd'
2. You get a bank account as 'Silly Company Name Ltd t/a SCN'
3. You trade as SCN.

I'd guess the bank account would be the 'pinch point'. Otherwise, the abbreviation won't affect your business.

Q2: No idea.

Hi, your trademark is your brand- so how will your customers recognise you? This is what you should apply to register as a trademark. This will give you the sole right to use those words for the goods and services applied for and you will be able to prevent others from using them without your permission.
