Community Introductions & Networking [no links please]

H

Henry Osadzinski

Welcome to the Scotland community introductions thread. This is a new space for people in the local area to come in, say hello and let everyone know what their hopes and goals are from their time on UK Business Forums.

Feel free to introduce yourself here and make others feel welcome :) If you know someone in your area who may benefit from joining in, be sure to let them know about us as well.

While you're welcome to let people know what you're working on and a bit of background, please avoid anything that could come across as a sales pitch and, even if you're an established member, please don't link to your business here. The idea is to give people a chance to get to know each other and what's going on in their region.

Thanks!

How about if us old people stop in and say high too? :)

I'm Robb, the MD at Carbide Media - a Glasgow online marketing firm

Hard to say what we do without it sounding like a pitch, so I'll leave it at ... we work with a number of Glasgow-based firms (as well as London and global), mostly small to medium sized businesses on anything from SEO to social media.

If any others from Glasgow get the urge for a cuppa and to discuss your business, I'm always interested in bouncing ideas around. No fee, just opinions and coffee (or tea).

Its great to finally hear that the Scottish Section isn't as dead as it looks lol.

I will be sure to get in contact for a cuppa and get some ideas bounced about between us.

Thank you for the very welcoming approach.

P.S it really is terribly hard to introduce yourself without sounding like a sales pitch lol.

Thanks again for your reply and I hope to be in contact as soon as I find a spare minute.

Hi

My name is Alistair and I run a Human Resources Consultancy called The HR Booth. I am based in Fife but can support clients all over Scotland, either on a retained basis or pay as you go.

I am hoping to network online within the group and also meet people face to face and happy to help promote other businesses.

If anyone would like to know more about what I do or get together over coffee please contact me via my profile.

Good luck with your business Joshua and if you need any support implementing contracts of employment or health and safety procedures please get in touch.

Regards

Alistair

Hi,

I would like to introduce myself, my name is Craig and I have been running my own business for around 4 months now. No prizes for guessing the service I offer!

I'm looking for any hints and tips you people may be able to provide a company of my tender age. I started the business with virtually no capital whilst constantly investing proceeds back in.

I think the next step for my business will have to be a professional site. Work is now starting to come in via word of mouth in the back of countless hours of hard graft. Are there any Web developers out there who could help and offer some advice? Who have you used for your businesses website?

....Whilst I am at it, I am currently offering a New Years offer of £40 per 1,000 leaflets for a solus drop. If anybody would like further information feel free to drop me a pm and we can have a chat.

Hi Everyone,

I'm glad to see there is a special section of the forums for all of us based up in Scotland.

Not to copy my intro too much from the main introduction section, but my name is Gavin and I am the regional sales manager of Xiphos Research Labs, a specialist information security company, and am based in Dundee.

I enjoy a fairly unique position, I am not just a seller of the products and services of Xiphos, I am also a keen security researcher in my own right and have made my mark on the industry under my forum name, and twitter handle, jac0byterebel.

I am joining this forum so that I can network online and hopefully be able to provide assistance to anyone with a question, or full blown business requirement, in information security. I also have a varied work background, so if I can draw on that to help anyone, so much the better.

Look forward to getting to know you all in the Scottish section of this forum!

Hi everyone,

I'm Helena and I own and run a brand new shop in Aberdeen. We sell design led interior, lifestyle and childrens' accessories, lots of our stock is from Scandinavia, but we also have great UK products. As I am Danish originally (have lived here nearly 8 years now), it was always a natural step to look to Scandinavia for products.

I am keen to explore this site to get some help on some of the many new things I need to learn in order to ensure my business succeeds! As I have never run my own business before, it is a steep learning curve at the moment!

Thanks
Helena

Hello, My name is Chris (or Brindy is a valid nickname) and I'm the director of BrindySoft.com Ltd. We build software and are based in Stirling.

Interesting to put Scotland as a single locality ... it's a pretty huge place. Guess there's not many people up here compared to the ares of England though. :)

Hi, I'm Elaine and I have a smallholding in the Carse of Gowrie; originally a hobby but now a young business aiming to produce top fruit, walnuts, chestnuts and their products. Of necessity it is a long, slow start-up with the bulk of the trees due to be planted this autumn and three years to wait until first cropping.

I came across this forum via a recommendation on the British Farming Forum and I'm looking forward to bouncing ideas off other small business owners. There seems a huge range of experience on here and a few answers to questions which I might otherwise have asked myself.

Hi my name is Gordon, and I have been working as a self employed structured cabling engineer for the last couple of years.

I have done a fair bit of contracting during this time.
I also have a few repeat customers of my own through contacts from my 10 years as an employee.
Basically am looking for some tips or advice on growing a small business and would be very interested to hear from anyone who may require my services!

Thanks

I thought I would introduce myself in this region as well as I am now spending 2 weeks in every 6 or 8 in Scotland (Crianlarich to be exact). I do telesales, marketing of all sorts, and general business support, latest jobs are brochure and website content for plastic pipes, telesales for specialist foods, and a marketing strategy for musical instruments.

It's a long trip from Somerset but the business climate in Scotland seems very welcoming...

Hi, just introducing myself. I'm Melanie and I'm a Freelance Virtual Assistant working from my home office in Glasgow.

As I'm sure a lot of you will know, working from home has a lot of benefits but it can also be a bit isolating, so it would be nice to bounce some ideas around to break up the day sometimes.

Looking forward to hearing from you all,
Melanie

So it looks like the Scotland front's been quiet for a while!

Hello to everyone on here, I've just upgraded my membership and have already seen some great discussions going on UKBF.

I'm currently running POP Content, a content marketing agency in Dundee.

It's super exciting to finally be my own boss, and scary, but it's been a wonderful experience so far to help others in a big way and have the freedom to recommend whatever I feel is best - without having to worry about annoying any higher ups! :)

Have an awesome day fellow Scottish businesses.

sixweekcoaching

Hi all,
I started my Wellbeing Coaching business (Six Week Coaching) last summer and am interested in helping contribute where I can. Also looking to understand what's really happening in UK workplaces, with regards to stress and how employees are getting support for stress, anxiety and depression at the moment.
Cheers,
Susanne.
