Commission Only Sales Person

Hi,

Can anyone recommend a good sales person?

They must have a proven track record of sales within a highly competitive B2B market.

I realise that the majority of good sales people shy away from commission only sales. However, what we are offering is a continuous commission structure. For each new client one, the commission will be continued to be paid each month for as long as they remain a client.

This provides an unlimited OTE as they can continue to build their earnings rather than receiving a one off commission payment for each sale.

Thanks

Hi Noreen,

Finding someone to do commission only that is a consistent seller and will not ditch you for a full time job the first time one comes up is very very difficult - as good people are hard to find.

You may want to try people per hour (just drop this into google) - but most people will charge an hourly/day rate.

Hope this helps,

Assuming you want the sales person for your payroll service, its likely that you wont find one that can afford to wait for commission to build up to a useful level.

You might be better off sourcing complimentary services to offer your service as part of what they do, book-keepers for example, who would like to have residual income from introductions.

I'd second the PeoplePerHour idea; find a retired salesperson who still wants a challenge, or a stay at home mum who can afford take a punt. You don't indicate what level of commitment you are looking for but wherever you go I doubt you'll get a full-timer.

Someone with good contacts in your market is also a necessity so that they can hit the ground running.

And if you do find someone, don't forget to ask yourself why they can't get a nice comfy salary elsewhere...

That's an easy one to answer any decent commission only job should pay much higher rewards than a salaried position, otherwise why take the position in the first place?

I know a lot of commission only guys, and they are happy to work in this method since they earn a lot more, and most are far superior to salaried position guys, they work harer and don't come out with excuses for poor sales.

Each to their own, to many people talk about this subject with little knowledge.

Ouch! True, knowledge must come before speech, but I know how hard it can be to make a commission-only position work. Not every potential candidate will believe your commission forecasts, and you have to be prepared for them to leg it as soon a) the going gets tough or b) they find a paid job.

All I'm saying is that the OP has to go into this with his eyes open.

Hi,

I realise that the majority of good sales people shy away from commission only sales.

The above is simply NOT true. I speak from experience and would say that this attitude should frankly lead you only to employ someone and pay them a decent wage.

Good commission only salespeople are the highest earners and typically the hardest working. Bad commission only salespeople are unemployable elsewhere. There is nothing in the middle. A good deal is a meeting of a talented salesperson with an imaginative and properly rewarding commission based opportunity.

Nice to see a professional comment. A good self employed salespersoncan make a company and themselves a huge amount of money, I have used 22-28 year old salespeople with a great work ethic who have made over £60k pa, this was over fifteen years ago. That was similar to a doctors and judges salary, and they were worth it since they worked much harder and made the company owners into millionaires within a year.

Sales is a much under valued part of most companies operations in the UK, but without sales how long will any company last? Good salespeople know their value and are not afraid of commission only positions.

Its great to see some positive comments around this kind of arrangements. There are always a lot of negative threads about commission only but for the right people with the right structure it can work really well for both the individual and the company. It effectively allows somebody to have their own business and if the rewards are right why wouldnt this be an appealing option. Not right for everybody, but still a valid business model that should not be overlooked.

Noreen,

If you were selling a product worth £10k per year per sale and giving a sales person 50% of that, and providing good quality leads. You would have zero trouble finding a great sales person.

If you are selling something worth a few hundred and expecting the sales person to make all his own cold calls from scratch earning 20% commission on £200 per sale, all you will end up with is no hopers.
