Commission Based Fundraisers

Hi all,

Following my recent post (which you may or may not have seen!) I have decided to form a CIC within the next month or so. My fundraising plan is to employ a group of self-employed commission based fundraisers. Now i'm getting myself in a bit of a tizz about it due to the bad press it has, for example the institute of fundraising says you "ought not" to do it, sorry I wanted to post a link here to their code of practise but I haven't posted enough times to do so.

Now I know there's no legalities involved, it's not illegal to fundraise in this way but does anyone know if there's a way I could get in trouble?

Personally I don't see what's wrong with it, I plan to be completely honest and while it is possible to raise a full time wage in this way it's more realistic for people to treat it as part time/occasional work. As a CIC i'd like to think we could be beneficial to the community of every fundraiser we employ as well as the impoverished people we plan to help.

Can anyone give me some reassurance here? Or maybe even just a second opinion?

Thanks,

Jenn

    The IoF says;
    'The Institute of Fundraising does not recommend that fundraisers or fundraising organisations are paid on a commission only basis, which would mean paying a fundraiser by giving them a percentage of total funds raised. The Institute also does not recommend that charities pay professional fundraising organisations or professional fundraisers in advance (for the recruitment of a set number of donors, for example)'.
