Business/website owners - what has always been your preference when registering a domain name for your site(s)?

.co.uk, .com, .net, .org, .biz or another?

Personally, I have always registered .com based domains. Rightly or wrongly, I have always valued that extn far higher than anything else. The .co.uk is nice being that it normally always indicates a UK based set-up but I have always tended to steer clear of the uk .tld.

Your thoughts?

both ideally - however, I'd market the .co.uk

I used to always go for .com domains but I realised that whenever I see a .co.uk in search results I'm more likely to pick it - I know if it's a .com it could be a UK company, but if it's a .co.uk then it's almost certainly a UK company :)

we advise differently according to the nature of our customer...

there is a difference between a company focusing on a local market / international market.

we advice to buy both, but use dominantly according to target market

paranoia levels regarding other vairants depend on the business, some folks we have will also register common mis-spellings...

If it's for a business I buy .co.uk purely because as a customer I don't click on .coms when I shop online. I assume they are american and I'm to lazy to actually click on it and check out whether they're selling stuff for dollars or gbp
