Hi All,
I'm just in the process of starting a limited company. I don't really have a clue what I'm doing but I'll tell you the story so far.
I am a theatre technician, mostly scenic carpentry and flying, but I know a bit about sound and lighting too. I returned to the industry around 18 months ago and after working my way up I came across a stumbling block and have now left a resident position in a theatre to go freelance. I have three months work lined up and the money is going to go into the new company with a view to putting it towards a bit of marketing and hopefully having a float.
Initially this is going to be a case of hiring myself out as a carpenter for the duration of the upcoming job but then I would like to start having a look at providing crew for events and shows. Also providing set building and carpentry services with a view to eventually running, managing, producing events, conferences, corporate promotional events and shows.
I know this is all a little loose at the moment but I have contacts and I'm intending on trying to gauge where the majority of the work is likely to come from.
I have an accountant and he is forming the company as I write this, However I have no real grasp of what I am supposed to do now. I understand revenue, expense, profit and loss. I am not intending on becoming VAT registered yet, but everything else is a bit beyond me. Can anyone suggest a good book or anything that will give me a basic understanding of how to go about what I am intending on doing. I have about two and a half months to get on top of everything.
I am confident that this is the way forward for me but need to get my head round the business side, which I have never really had to do before.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions,
Look forward to chatting with you.

Hey,

Welcome to UKBF :)

Sounds like your getting stuck in and the good news is that it sounds like the current job will give you time to learn the ropes a little.

If you have a good accountant that's one half of it - in terms of being legal and knowing where you money is going. You have a limited Co and a limited bank account so I would recommend above anything else you could possibly do is take a couple of hours out as soon as you can to start a business plan.

Having a business plan will answer most of the questions you need to answer for your self, which in turn will give you the confidence to proceed.

You probably have a free template with the business bank account you recently opened, if not have a search online, if that fails, Google Business Plan Pro.

Anyway, before I get really carried away.... Welcome from Nineteen Pounds social media cover design.
