Hello Everyone,
I'm currently living in the North of the country, but will be relocating to London come September. I'll be 18.
At the moment I'm running an online store selling clothes and accessories, t/o is looking to be £30k pa, with my profit at 9/10k. I started this venture roughly 8 months ago, but it has been on and off - I've not had stock in constantly due to time restraints and college commitments...it's hard to manage both college work and the online store. But since the start of May we've been running 24/7 (the turnover for that month was 2.7k)
However, this isn't something I want to carry on for much longer. I understand that it's good money for a 17 year old lad, but I'm not particularly motivated by it, I want to move onto other things and it would also be a nice idea to hand it over to my mother since she hates her job which earns about the same as the store.
After seeing a local lad down here have huge success with his event company, which throws parties for the 16 - 21 age range I'm quite interested in getting into that sort of market. I enjoy the club nightlife scene and would look to try my hand at it.
My thoughts are to sub-promote for a bigger promoter in London, learn the ropes and see what it's like providing someone would take me on (voluntary non paid work is an option) Do you think sub-promoting and somewhat trying to become an 'apprentice' would be the way to go about it? Obviously it could materialise into getting contacts, seeing how the business works etc.
I understand that knowing lots of people helps when trying to promote an event, and I would be at a disadvantage to others in the eyes of many since I would be new to the area. However, I think that with the addition of sites like Facebook, Twitter etc it's becoming increasingly easy to get to know and invite people to such events. Also, I have a great deal of family and a few close friends down South who I am sure would be willing to help me meet new people.
I would greatly appreciate any comments, tips, or even if anyone is a promoter and would kindly help me out in my ambition. I look forward to hearing back from the forum!
Oliver
