Hello Business Forumers,

I wonder if you can help me.

We are a start up and are looking for a production/manufacture for our
clothing product to sell online in the UK.

Its a niche tracksuit product, 100% cotton etc

We have had a couple of samples made by manufacturers in the UK and China and of course have found that the UK ones require all the materials put in front of them, therefore sourcing all fabrics etc, and the Chinese have a large minimum order, which requires finding investment etc either way they both end up at the same price per piece and both good quality

Ideally we are looking for a manufacturer who can cater for smaller quantities initially, either UK Turkey Pakistan, so that we can get an idea of their ability and costings.

Anyone got any ideas?

What are your initial quantities, colours, sizes etc ?

5 x colours required are:

Purple
Light Green
Light Yellow
Royal Blue
Mid Grey Melange

They all contain an the same inner lining to make it fully reversible.

A total order of either:

500
750
1000

Each of the above will ideally have an initial order of 150/200 and then subsequent orders will be based to meet demand.

Each range will be required in 3 sizes S,M,L. (potentially an XL....TBC)

Generally the minimums will be in the region of 1200 pcs.

If the fabric can be bought from stock, rather than ordering, than it's a possibility.

How would you look to ship the garments, by air or sea ?

Ideally air, but then it depends on the price of each and how it fits with our cash flow.

I should also say that the company which we have been in contact in China, makes and dyes the material themselves, which I believe is putting the price up rather considerably, therefore it would be good to get an idea of the cost from just buying the material from other sources.....or do you not think it will make too much of a difference?

QC should be done in the factory by a independant QC person and failures weeded out

A lot of bother and arguments once it arrives at your warehouse and found to be faulty

Samples are allways high quality,so cannot rely on that as a indication of the shipment

Is it a unique fabric? Or generally available quite easily?

We use a factory in Pakistan whom I could recommend, they accept small MOQ and we've been with them for about 5 years, although make sure you perform your own due diligence!

Buying the material from stock would allow you to buy the quantity of the material you need, rather than the minimum a factory would demand if dyeing the fabric themselves.

It really depends on what the fabric is.

Buying the material from stock would allow you to buy the quantity of the material you need, rather than the minimum a factory would demand if dyeing the fabric themselves.

It really depends on what the fabric is.

Is it velour, cotton, cotton/polyester?

Ideally it will be 100% cotton if its available, however could also do 80% cotton 20% polyester.... as its going to be reversible we would either have a linen inside, or lighter weighted gsm cotton fabric and potentially look into "bonding", or other ways.

We would need around 2m per piece.

100% Correct.

That's exactly what we do.

Travel to the factory and spend a whole day inspecting and testing the garments, including colours, sizes, buttons, zips, stress tests, labels, tickets, folding, packaging, carton ratios, carton markings, packing lists, invoices, export documents..................etc etc.

If you are doing something, do it properly!

My advice would be to go for 80% cotton / 20% polyester for 2 reasons.

No shrinkage.

Better price.
