Claiming back for wrong tax code

Hi, I've been working as Employed with an emergency tax code for about 2 months and I think I paid too much tax. Is it possible to claim back an overpayment? I've been looking at the HMRC website but its still not very clear.

What form do I need to fill in to inform HMRC about this? Or do I just write a letter to them? :|

Id appreciate any help. Thanks

Hi - just write a letter to HMRC or you can call them and request that your tax code is amended - issuing the incorrect tax code is very common so they usually make the change quickly by issuing a revised Notice of Coding to your employer who will apply immediately and the tax will be recalculated across the tax year. Presumably an emergency tax code was used because you did not have a P45. However as we are just changing tax years, you will need to write and reclaim the overpaid tax by attaching relevant payslips etc. as the overpaid tax will fall into the previous tax year.
