Good afternoon!
I know of the rules regarding company christmas dinner etc but I am just a small business (sole director VAT registered LTD company) and wondered, I would quite like to buy SOME (not all!) of my customers a bottle of wine or two, almost as a 'thank you' for your business this year etc.

I am not talking Cristal champagne, but maybe buy a couple of cases of wine, and hand them out accordingly, costing probably no more than £150/200 for it all.
I understand I could be seen as buying it for myself, but I have the company trivial benefit scheme for that kind of thing. I don't need to wine and dine these clients, but a bottle or two of wine would be a nice gesture to them at least to feel appreciated as a customer of mine.

So with regards to doing that, is it simply just a case of putting it down as an expense? I obviously am not interested in claiming VAT back on it, just trying to figure how to account for the purchase and doing it all by the book.

You can put the bottles of wine through your books as an expense but you can't claim VAT on them and they're not an allowable expense when claculating taxable profits.
