Chinese Factories Too Expensive?

I'm looking to buy Leather bags, the problem is half the quotes are about the same as I would pay for retail in the UK, let alone what I would get for wholesale here.

Any ideas?

I'm looking on Alibaba is anywhere else worth a look?

It sounds as if the Chinese are quoting on small numbers or are not taking you seriously.

If you are looking for small numbers, then by the time you add freight and duty the price will be high.

If you are, however looking for volume then let them know and the price will come down. Be wary of Alibaba though as there are a fair few resellers on there. You can try globalsources.com or even hktdc.com but the minimums are a lot higher. You then move into a different ball game altogether....

Hi There,
Nice to meet you.

Many companies in China will overprice.

If you want to get the best out of them, I suggest being extremely upfront and clear about your targets and intentions.

I know numerous companies in China who could assist with this, please let me know.

What i gather is generally the products in china will be produced by a main company and then loads of little ones try to pass themselves off as factories in order to make you think you're getting a good price.

So you will be getting high prices from people who are in effect buying and selling taken the margins down a bit more.

You have to email loads of people ad find the best price, ask them about the shipping though too. The people who originally produce the goods from a factory won't be looking to rip you off on shipping but the middle men buying and selling will.

Try Spain and USA.

I bought some leather bags in Spain last month for about 12 euros retail in a tourist area. They could definitely sell in the UK for £30 upwards.

No idea where one would find them but the Spanish are very good at promoting their exports So maybe the consulate is a good place to start?

Hi all,

It is Javier from the Alibaba.com UK team. Regarding Mister B's comment that there are many resellers on Alibaba, we wanted to let you know that you can filter your searches on alibaba.com by business type:. For example, you can filter the results by "Manufacturer" to ignore the results from trading companies/resellers…

There also are other filters such as "region" and more yet advanced filters depending on the product you are searching for. For instance, when searching for leather, you can filter by "use": shoes, furniture… "material": calf skin, cow skin… and yet more filters.

Kind regards and happy trading,

Javier

In fact, recently the goods in China are not cheap as before any more because of inflation and rise of labour wage and raw material, especially in this year. The price for clothing and leather products are not low if you don't want to buy big quantity, because the factory cannot get VAT if the quantity is not shipped through Chinese custom.
I think India or Pakistan or Bangladeshi would be more optional for clothing and leather products. If electral or electronic products, China is the best market for you import.
