China to UK FOB shipment

Hi,
I recently shipped x40 loose boxes weighting around 18kg each and 52x45x45cm

So around 4 cubic meters
And 720kg

It was LCL.
I paid around £1200 including custom charges. But excluding vat and duty.

So my question is, I’m planning on making a second shipment but when Google-ing “how much is container from China to Uk” the most common answer is around £2500, does this sound right, when I paid £1200 for about 15% of a 20ft container.

And, are there any must dos when it comes to getting quotes.

Thanks

Why would I pay £1200 for way less than half a 20ft container then. . .
So that all involved in shipping your consignment make a profit.

For future shipments contact a variety of shipping agents to quote based on your requirements, delivered to your door.

There are many reasons why you would ship with LCL rather than a full container.

Remember that the container ocean freight cost does not include any customs clearance, handling and delivery to you warehouse.

Shipping costs are a major component to your landed cost, so understand what the best method is for each shipment.

Economies of scale. When shipping LCL you will pay X amount per Cubic metre normally. For a container it is a flat fee but you have to try and fill that container to make it worthwhile. Buy FOB terms and get an all in rate to delivered door (except Duty/VAT), then you can easily compare cost between LCL & FCL to see which is cheaper option for you.

Hello, yes this situation is common. You know more quantity brings cheaper charge. For the freight, always the FCL is cheaper than the LCL mode.

    1. Get 2-3 quotes to compare
    2. Different incoterms has different obligation for sellers and buyers. The most common delivery term are EX-Work, FOB, CIF, and DDU.
    4. It is essential to know all costs before paying shipping fees.
    3. It is crucial to work with a reliable forwarder to secure your goods can be transported safely to your place.

The Incoterms you mention may be common but also some of the more troublesome ones
DDU doesn’t appear in the latest 2020 version of Incoterms so if you do use it make sure you quote the relevant incoterms year To save confusion
exworks is a problem in UK and EU if the business isn’t resident in those countries/ territories as they cannot legally be the exporter.
the ICC who write the Incoterms do not recommend FOB for goods moved in shipping containers. It can also only be used for marine transport.
CIF again only for marine freight, plus most folks dont understand the transfer of risk is different to the delivery point at destination.
