Watch out for cheap as chips hosting. You get what you pay. I am moving my website on Monday to 3x more expensive hosting, because I`m simply not getting emails to my company email. **** cheap hosting, it isn`t worth saving few £. And definitely servers must be in UK, with UK support. Go for big, famous companies.

As a generalisation, this stands, but I wouldn't necessarily agree with going for a big brand. I have 2 sites hosted with 2 different hosts, Equiphase and UWH. Neither are big or famous and both are UK based, excellently priced and amazing customer service.

    £1 a month..heh heh.
Well for my 3p a day I want no limits on bandwidth, unlimited storage with free backups no matter what size, oh make that with at least 2 sets of redundant backups, no server recourse usage limits, 100% uptime, a free domain, 24/7 live helpdesk via phone, IM and email, a personal helpline assistant who knows when my Mum's birthday is and reminds me 5 days before, oh and some of those flowjobs I hear about....
£3 a month is cheap and gets you reasonably good hosting, (sometimes very good hosting); you really can't stretch to that for a business?

    Remember !!!!!!!!!

You want Good Hosting Cheap NOT Cheap Hosting..

The cheap hostings will be jammed to capacity and you will have nothing but hassles .

Server uptime is of importance and this is only assured when servers are NOT running flat out with a million websites..

pay a little extra and get sensible quality hosting , the couple of quid extra is money well spent ..;)

I pay about £36pa for basic hosting and I reckon thats half price for what I get if not third of the price. How cheap do people want to go?? Its almost as if some people expect things for free and if they pay anything, they're indignant. If you've got a website that you depend on for your livelyhood, its surely worth paying whats required to get a good service? If its a hobby site, I guess thats a different matter.......

[I am in Beijing so I need servers "over the Great Firewall of China]
US$59 per year for a basic set up, he has back up in Texas as well.

If you want cheap (about £10) try one.com. But its no good for magento, esyndicat or any demanding cms.

If you want reasonably priced hosting with great script support choose siteground.

If you want to be ripped off go with 1and1.

You can try Hostgator. They are always offering discounts and incentives for their hosting plans, especially for new clients. I have a small blog on shared hosting and have no problems with their customer support and uptime of my site.
PS: I found this code april1monthoff for first month free.

I couldn't agree more with RBS! Cheap means crap service most of the times.

The questions that you need to answer are...

    1. can you affort to have your website down for a few hours or days without impact to your business? It has happened to me in the recent past (site was down for 7-8 days)

    2. Will you be able to handle situations where there is no response to your emails or the customer service will be crap or none at all?

True, but not all cheap hosting companies are bad. The price simply reflects the features and the competitive nature of the market. Better advice would be to listen to someone who has first hand experience.

Im sure you have heard of Heart Internet based in the UK, and an excellent hosting company I am sure you will all agree.

They are not the cheapest, but they are brilliant.

I have the resellers account package, mainly to host all my websites, and a hybrid VPS Server, which to be honest i am not utilising yet :(

If anybody wants to try FREE hosting UNLIMITED package for a few months, Cpanel hosting etc.. usual stuff then pm me.. i have had my account over 3 years, and i need it for all my websites, so it's long term.
