Chauffeur Business

Hey all!

I currently own an Audi R8 and i am looking at renting it out with a driver(myself).
Same idea as this place -

wwwlancashirelimoscouk/lambo but we are in Scotland.

Does anyone have any experience in this field?
How hard would it be to get a operators license for this?

Have you also considered that most will want to hire an R8 to drive themselves rather than a chauffeur driven?

Also, are you a trained security driver? Will add more to your offering if so.

There are a number of super car hire companies and so i would also suggest looking looking at those who don't have an R8 and offering your services.

Yes i realise a lot of people would prefer to drive themselves but I dont like the idea of it and insurance costs would be pretty high I think.

I am not a trained security driver although its something i'll consider.

I only really want to have maybe 1 hire per week, as its something i'll be doing while working full time elsewhere.

The car is paid for so if i can get a couple of 1 hour hires(up to £200 each) per week then i would be happy with that.

My main issue is what type of license i would need to do this..

You just need to register the car as a taxi and pay the appropriate insurance.
Is there really a market for this? I can imagine that schoolboys would pay to be driven to prom etc but I would have thought that adults would only pay for something special?

You appear to be in Finland,your laws may be different.

I agree that schoolboys etc would be interested. Was also thinking a groom turning up to a wedding in r8?

I also have access to a white audi q7 which could be used for transporting the best man etc.

Still at the planning stage clearly!

But i would only need an order every few weeks as these cars are bought anyway.

As a business this is the completly wrong approach.Your vehicle is paid for but your pricing of the work must take into considerstion its replacement at some point.You obviously have to cost it to cover repairs insurance and reversing into posts

I know a chap that does executive airport runs and has been doing it for many years.He never even advertises and gains all his work by word of mouth.There is a market for this service as not everybody wants to drive everywhere themselves

Hmmm.
I personally don't think you will get a booking every fortnight for £200 a time as an R8 and even more so a Q7 is such an attainable vehicle.
Having said that I'm sure you know your market better than I do.

Very true, i guess i've got to think more long term.

Im thinking more of doing it as a sideline for a few years rather than an ongoing project.

As for the price, i could do it for £100/hour and still make decent money.

£100 twice a month won't cover the insurance required to do this legitimately.

Yeh dont think people would pay way over the top just to go to the airport.

Maybe theres a market just for proms/birthday treats/16th/18th birthdays parties?

I heard of a guy who had a similar business so you might be on to a way of making a few hundred pounds a week. It's tricky though, as you can only take one passenger at a time, so you need to decide who your target market is and how to get to them. Who would want to go for a drive with a stranger in an R8?

Perhaps you should target younger guys (through their parents) as a birthday experience? Rather than delivering them somewhere, you take them for a drive through the country. I doubt an expensive limo service would work as you can carry just the one person, so you need to market the experience rather than getting anywhere in particular.

Thanks for your comment, i think thats what im leaning towards.

I'm pretty young myself(25) and have picked up friends' little brothers etc from school and taken them for drives and they've loved it.

Just need to start charging them!
