Charity Advertising or a Donation?

What's the line between a business advertising with a charity and a business donating to charity.

I'm putting together something for a charity, and they would like publicise donations by having adverts on various literature and media. Can that be classed as a donation by the business/charity?

It's probably easy to decide. If the charity lists "Thanks to the following who made donations/provided services/whatever" then it's a donation. If they give a few column centimetres in their newsletter then it's an ad.

Cheers, my thought was they would have to have some sort of "Thank to the following as they have donated.." (a disclaimer almost) and then basically showing their ads.

Whenever I deal with charities, they tend to put a small thank you on their litature, something along the lines of, "computerfaq has kindly donated 14 computers to us in order for us to blah blah blah."
