A friend working at a sixth form college is wanting to retire. He will be 61 but checked on his pension which will be enough for him even taken now.
However it seems he can only retire with the colleges agreement, at least this is what they appear to be saying in their handbook. Can that be right or can he just resign with normal notice period and then apply to take his pension?
At the other end they are saying you will automatically retire at 65 but have the right to appeal if you want to stay. I thought that people could work on if they wanted to and employers were not allowed to retire people because of age if they wanted to continue.
Can someone explain how it works?
Thanks
