If both old and new accountants are members of professional bodies then it should be fairly seamless. The PBs each have statutory clearance and handover procedures to make it as simple as possible.

Where you can hit a problem is if you are moving payroll provider from a bureau to an accountant, since CIPP (the payroll professional body) do not publish or enforce any handover process for payroll.

It should be fairly straightforward to change part way through the year especially if your new accountant is familiar with Xero. However, I would check whether you are the subscriber to Xero, or is the subscriber your accountant? If your existing accountants are the Xero account holders you will need to ensure that they transfer the subscription over to either yourself or your new accountant with no issues.

How easy is it to change your accountant mid financial year? We use Xero and I am just wondering if it would be better to wait or whether it would make no difference. Many thanks

It shouldn't be a problem at all your new accountant should deal with all that's required.
