Challenge to name of limited company

Hi There

One of my clients has set up a company name with a variation of his surname.

The name is similar to an (not very famous) IT brand - however the services are completely different and there was no intentional attempt to copy the name.

The spellings are different, sectors are different, yet my client keeps getting nasty letters from a firm of solicitors threatening legal action unless he changes the company name?

Can anyone shed some light on this?
I am mostly curious, I am the guys accountant and have not been asked to solve the problem!!

Many Thanks

If the client has not asked you to solve the problem...then there is nothing to do!

If you are saying that the solicitors have not written to you, then why would they?

This is something we can help with if we can see on what basis they are challenging his right to use it. It may be they are saying he is breaching their trademark, but without more information it would impossible to comment usefully.
