It shouldn't have done... unless you had that file/folder/ext was added to the "Include" list. This could be a folder or File Type which would delete its contents, or delete that type of file, when CCleaner is run.

Options > Include... Have a look make sure nothing is set there...

Otherwise I'd have to say its very unlikely.

As Subbynet says, it shouldn't have done.

Unfortunately a system restore won't bring it back, however depending which operating system you have there may be "Previous Versions" of the folder available to grab the file from.

Which version of Windows are you running?

If you know which folder it was in, try right clicking on that, then going to Properties.

You should then see a Previous Versions tab along the top, click on that.

It may then bring up a list of dates, click on the latest one where you think the file will be and click on Open. It will then bring up a normal explorer windows where you can copy the file back to where it should be.

If you have any problems just let us know.

This might work, and it might not work... But its worth a shot.

Have a look in the folder

C:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\

You might have to open the folder options dialog, and click the "View" tab, and then click the "Show Hidden System Files"... and untick the "Hide Protected Operating System Files".

Now you might see a file like "~yourfilename.xls"

If so, you're in luck, rename the file and remove the ~...

Failing that... From the command prompt (Start > Run > and type cmd) then type echo %temp% - hit enter.

It will give you a folder where temp files are stored. Navigate to this folder and again look for files which start with a ~something.xls (or .xlsx if using Excel 2010+)

and last but not least, its possible you may have AutoRecover enabled, if you do follow do the below...

Open Excel, open the options dialog, click "Save" tab and look at the AutoRecover path.

Now navigate to this folder and check its contents. Hopefully you have some files in there... It will probably have a ~random.xar file name...

If so just copy all those files to a safe place for now.

Let us know how you get on, and if you find anything we can take it from there.
