Hi Alan I've had many catering vans. Parking it on your drive way is perfectly ok. If you wish you can also trade from there but you will have to notify the cancel once your up and running. This is mainly because your home has now become your place of business and the cancel can charge believe it or not. If you park it on the road out side your house, Say' in a lay-by you can just trade as normal.
running a burger van is very simple, park up anywhere you can find a spot where your not in the way like as said a lay-by and just open up. Your are supposed to notify the cancel but I never bothered with this as one of them will tum up anyways with in about 2 weeks. All they will do is look around your van and make sure it is safe to use. I.E you have your food and hygiene certificate, The van is built to the right spec: and your following all the rules set out by the food safety act. they will also look at where you have your van in the first place obviously.. Sounds like a lot but it normally takes about 10 minuets. Give them a free burger and a cup of coffee and you all good lol. I've set up in a few places and same thing every time.

Not at all, no one was bought off with burgers lol Its just a nice thing to do. if they had said it was unfit to trade then ok I wouldn't have gave them anything.
But come on I would love to know all your expirience in the field as my post is Utter nonsense, start to finish. You have started now so you may as well explain how all the rest of what I have said is Utter nonsense as you say. ??? As for Fly pitching I think you find its is a very different matter when it comes to burger vans. The most I have ever had was to be told to move on. It's very simple to call the cancel once you have found a spot to ask for the go ahead but ~I never bothered as they always came to me. weather it was to tell me to move on or to stay. But still I would like to know your first hand experience in this. Maybe your local cancel are strict . How many vans have you had may i ask?

To the OP; hopefully you aren't taking this 'advice' - here's what will happen if you 'just turn up'

Local residents, if there are any will immediately be on the phone to the Council to get you moved on.

Properly licenced traders will get upset. They might complain to the Council, or they might take their own form of action.

If you are lucky, you will get asked to move on once or twice. Then you will be fined (if you haven't been torched). You will also find it very difficult to get properly licensed if you have consistently flouted the law.
