I am intrigued by what may be accomplished with Google Wave. It seems there are so great possibilities for not only inter company communication and collaboration but also perhaps for client communication as well.

Have any of you managed to get your hands on Google Wave? What are your first impressions?

If any of you have a cheeky unused invite sitting around, I'd be more than happy to be the recipient ;)

I'm not so sure. I think it could certainly improve some productivity. Drafting of copy for instance. Multiple users could be drafting, editing, critiquing simultaneously, instead of one person writing copy and sending it round to multiple parties who then send it back with corrections and back and forth again until it is ready.... that's just one example. Hmm I'm still keen to try it out.

... there are significant problems...

1 - There aren't critical mass of users - my clients, suppliers, mates & acquaintances aren't on wave so you can't include who you need

2 - As there aren't the folk available you can't purposely (with an objective in mind) use the service

3 - As you can't purposely use the service you can't test the functionality

4 - As you can't test the functionality you can't have an opinion, other than "it looks nice and appears to have some useful features"

But we'll be able to test this as Google scale the inclusion and features...

Other than that I only log on once a week now to see if any of my contacts have updated any wave, which no-one is bothering to do currently...

If you want to expand your contacts you could add me as 'richurc<at>googlewave.com'.

Cheers,

/r

Yes, google wave is the worst kind of product to put on limited release/invite only. This kind of limited beta to hype it up works for other products, but google wave needs all your contacts to be able to access it to be of any use at all.

It will probably come into its own when freely available
