Hi everyone,

I work in a really small cafe` and I was told to look for a cash register with these functions:

- Possibility to have at least 5 categories.

e.g. Hot drinks - Cold drinks - Snacks - Fresh food...

- Digit the price of the product after selecting the category

basically it should be a 2 buttons-use cash register. It has to be very use-friendly because there are old volunteers working in the kitchen.

My boss would like to be able to do a daily reckoning in order to know what we sold and in what numbers.

I don`t know exactly how to start so I`m writing here, sorry if my english is not perfect.

Thanks in advance.

We have a Casio SE-G1 (in our chocolate shop / cafe) - I'm sure there are a dozen alternatives, but the Casios are about £50-70.00 (new), on sale in Bookers Cash & Carry, on Amazon or on eBay. 8 departments buttons (you wanted 5). Not too big, even a choice of colours.

Price - Dept - Sub-total (and repeat as necessary) - Total. Very simple to use, Z + TTL at the end of each day to give daily sales by department and reset to zero (running total at bottom of print out). And very quiet as it's a thermal printer.

I'm sure every till does all of this, but just in case you're even more of a beginner than we were a few months ago!! And you can program your business name + Thank You on to the receipts. We like it.

Hope that helps,
Mark.

Hi Mark,

Thank you for the lovely and complete answer, while waiting for answers I carried out a small research and found that exact model, it really seems to fit our requirements perfectly.

Thanks again.

Best Regards,

Julian

That casio is a nice little machine, just be aware it's not a full size cash drawer, and only has 5 coin compartments. The slightly bigger machines (ses400 ) have "proper" cash drawers.
And with categories, depending how you deal with vat, you might want to record eat in/takeaway/vat/non vat totals. If you're flat rate or not vat registered, then it's simpler.

True enough - 1p/2p, 5p/10p and £1/£2 sharing sections works for us, which can be a little irritating as you run low in one denomination. But then that's why it's a smaller footprint, I suppose. And you're right, I am sure VAT would mean something a little more advanced than this model.

Sorry for the late reply. Agree with all the comments about the SE-G1 cash register - Casio's in general are really good tills. The only complaint we get from our customers about the SE-G1 is the fact that you can't turn the printer off. You can use the till in receipt or journal mode, but whichever mode you use be sure to have plenty of till rolls too hand!
