First of all, can I please ask that I don't get phone calls after I ask this following question.

I am a cartoon logo designer with a very good international reputation, however, this is not reflected in search engines. How can I improve my google rating, other than adwords, so that when people search for cartoon logos, my web size appears

How do I go about that? How could I do it myself, or what kinda costs am I looking at if someone else does it

I would say, to get someone decent to SEO your site would cost £600- £1000 for initial research and set up, then probably about £400 per month for a few months to get it sorted.

Those prices are based on experience of using SEO's in the past for businesses very similar to yours. I'm not an SEO.

Personally, I wouldn't have thought you wouldn't need to worry about SEO'ing your site as your business is an incredibly easy one to market and your work speaks for itself. As I think I have mentioned to you before, there are some incredibly poor cartoon logo designers around, so you already have a huge advantage over the competition.

If you do decide to get the site done, be very careful what keywords you go for, the ones that will make you money will not be the ones you anticipate using at this stage.

I generate a lot of business myself, and do well, but it would be nice if the site appeared on search engines and helped bring myself to the notice of those looking. However I dont have £1000 to spare at the moment because of other financial commitments. Maybe I should buy a book on how to SEO

Don't make a decision based on the prices I suggested. They are simply the prices I know a couple of people have paid to seo simple service based sites such as yours.

I wouldn't imagine many cartoon logo designers are employing top SEO's to get their rankings, so maybe you could compete doing it yourself.

IMO, learning to do it, then actually doing it would be a waste of time and also false economy. You would be better off doing what you do best (design) and using the money to pay an SEO to do the site.

The main difference between being a slave to self employment, and actually running a business, is knowing when to buy in different skills.

There is probably quite a lot you could do yourself, have a good read through this forum and others like it, there are numerous tips.

If you want to spend the money for a professional, there are a few guys that could easily be recommended from ukbf who wouldn't cost the earth and who would provide a sterling service.

I am on page one for the term cartoon logo designer and I did the work re this phrase myself (nil cost). It's not a highly used keyword phrase however. I suspect many people seeking cartoon logo design search generally for images (This is how many of my search engine referrals arrive) or via graphic design and logo design agencies not perhaps realising that cartoon design isn't something they may be able to handle.

Thank you for the tip, its much appreciated

Scott

I started a poll re this topic a while back to see what people would search for if looking for a cartoon logo design and the majority suggested they'd search under 'logo designer' and the rest suggested they'd search under 'cartoonist'. Both very competitive phrases.

I think a good phrase for you and your type of cartoons might be vector artist, vector illustration etc. in addition to all the obvious phrases as it's a very sought after medium.

Good work on that one, but the clue is no PPC ads showing it is under used. With 30 searches broadly matched and 0 phrase/exact matches per month this allows me to say to the OP research your keywords first before you commit to time spent on SEO.

First port of call would be the free G keyword tool. See what people are looking for and indeed paying for.

This would help you gleam where to concentrate your efforts or indeed if you need to get a pro in (I am NOT an SEO Pro btw just been round the block a few times ;)).

You could get more traffic from a term ranked #4-10 for a searched term than being #1 - 3 for a term that is rarely used.

HTH and this is not a comment on CL's seo efforts, just using the above phrase to demonstrate a point in the search for passive custom.

Very nice work.

I would say from looking at your site and from what we've learned that you really need to both improve on the coding of the site, The coding on the site is very messy and overcomplicated. I think its a template service you've used is it not, while these kind of things might look okay they aren't easily read by google.

Combine that with not very much content on your site and you won't get a site that perfoms well. A reall shame as there is some great work on your site.

If it were me I would look at getting a site professionally made and also think about adding some write ups on projects you have done in the past - the pictures are great but they need some text to explain them and to help the search engines lead people to them.

From my experience as an ecommerce business owner I can say with confidence that you need to do plenty of research and select the correct "SEO"

SEO's an ever changing game and Google has devalued offsite link building techniques. Since this last major update, traditional SEO agencies (who usually subcontract link building on mass) may not be so effective for you.

I'd go with an experienced SEO designer who can really help with your on page content. I have a few recommendations if you like that have really helped my businesses.

Best of luck.
