Hi, I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask but I thought I'd give it a go. I am thinking of going to a career advice company (paid for) and just wondered if anyone had used one & what they thought. Any opinions would be great, good or bad, just want to get a feel for the practice in general before I commit to anything.

Thanks :)

Good point! I'm actually looking at it from an employee point of view as I need to keep working while I start up my business as I'm in the very early stages and don't have the capital to give up my 'day job'. Thanks for the advice.:)

Most of these "career counsellors" are ex "recruitment consultants" and a more useless bunch of numptys you could not wish to meet  All they tell you is how to compile your CV in recruitment speak, turn your hobby into a business idea and garbage like "perhaps you might change career direction" full in the knowledge that if it isn't written in total black and white on your CV for the EXACT job you are applying for, then you have more chance of swimming the Atlantic with an anvil strapped to your back than changing career direction right now.

Ah, that's what I get for perusing with a 1/4 of an eye open

In the case of a careers advisor - Save your time and money, they are even worse than most business consultant types that I was referring to.

Personally if I didn't have a job at the moment I would join the rest on the dole and view that as my job, from a philosophical perspective of course - Nothing lets you see the wheels of society grinding like being on the bread line and who knows, you may come across inspiration sitting in the nash hearing two old dears complain about something they used to love buying but can't find anymore because all the supermarkets operate on media spend/brand knowledge recognition and forgo the entire grey demograph.

If all else fails and you are determined to get a job then here's my million dollar tip that will get you a job in no time:

Print your CV on green paper and place it inside a red envelope.
