If you are shopping around for merchant services then our payment gateway package is just £15 per month including 300 transactions for Ecom/MOTO and 3D Secure (no charge for declines) and No Setup Fee. We can also get you some very competitive merchant account rates with No Setup Fee.

If you are interested click the link in my signature to find out more or drop me a PM with any questions or you contact details if you would like me to call you.

Thanks,

Simon

Likewise, we are an alternative to WorldPay and Sage Pay, so should you like some more quotes, we are happy to help you and answer any questions you may have. We work with with many companies with a range of business models and will work to ensure we provide a payment solution that is in line with your business needs.

Best of luck with your research

Simon, by no setup fee do you mean no setup fee for the whole thing? i.e. Including merchant account setup with an acquiring bank also?

The OP asked for opinions and comparisons between the different options, not self-promotion!

Sagepay use to be the obvious best choice (when they were known as Protx) but things have gone downhill quite a lot since then, however the service is still worth considering and is slowly improving.

No experience with cardstream but plenty with Sagepay and Worldpay. For me, Worldpay wins easily for ease of service and up time. The last six months or so with Sagepay has been painful at times. Importantly when choosing your provider think of customer recognition.....there are loads of providers out there but many will have never been heard of by your customer and that provider logo is another little confidence builder so make sure that you don't just go for the cheapest option..... choose a provider that gives your customer a feeling of confidence.

Thanks for the recommendation AndyP, I hadn't considered Worldpay as an alternative to Sagepay but as Streamline (I believe) are now part of that group, it might be worth doing some digging.

Out of interest, do you use just use the business gateway, or business gateway plus which includes the merchant account? I already have Sagepay and Streamline working togeather and my rates for the merchant part are much less than the 3.35% they show on their website (ouch!).

How do you find the fraud checks compared to Sagepay's Third Man Results? It suggests that fraud screening on Worldpay is an option at 10p per transaction which seems excessive as Sagepay include for free.

Hi Sparx,

That is correct. With one of our acquiring partners we can offer No Setup Fee for the merchant account and we always offer No Setup Fee for the payment gateway. As long as you met the criteria for the acquirer (i.e. not a high risk sector) then this would be the case.

Thanks,

Simon

Hi BisleyGuy, Sparx, and ian-d.

Depending on the quantity of transactions you should consider Nochex.

We charge ZERO monthly fee, 2.9% + 20p per transaction, and this month no set-up fee.

Our price includes Merchant Account and Payment Gateway, and 3D Secure is also included for no additional charge.

Whatever you do, good luck with your business!

Kind regards,
- Peter

Hello everyone

Cardstream offer a competitive tariff of:
Firstly, there is no setup fee!
£216 per annum subscription fee - payable in £18 monthly instalments
350 transactions free of charge per month
9.9p per additional transaction
This will include access to our Virtual Terminal (for mail/telephone orders), all the required security checks (including 3D Secure), real-time refunds, real-time/downloadable reports and multi user with multi permission user access to the MMS (Merchant Management System)

We can process payments for all the UK Acquirers and in all worldwide currencies. If anyone needs any assistance with setting up a Merchant Account, we would be more than happy to help with this process - as it can be rather difficult if you're new to ecommerce!

For developers, Cardstream offers a full test account, test card details, integration guides, example code and a number of different ways in integrated with us (direct, hosted form and custom hosted form). All this information is available at cardstream.com or if you wish to discuss anything with us, please call 0845 00 99 575.

Thanks for starting this thread BisleyGuy - and I hope this helps.

We've been with Sage Pay for a couple of years now and their service has been ok, however when the service crashes then their service seems to fall apart.

Payouts from Sage Pay are quick, normally we get the money in our bank within about 3 working days.

We used to be with Worldpay, however they held our money for quite a while (about 2 weeks if memory is correct) which had massive cash flow issued.

Currently switching from Sage Pay and will let you know how that goes.

Best of luck

Bobby

Hi Bobby

You shouldn't find that changing the Payment Processor will effect the settlement times too much, as most of us either settle in real-time or during the same night of authorisation.

The holding of funds is normally down to the Merchant Acquirer you have chosen - mainly due to their internal risk reasons.

RBS relaunched WorldPay as RBS WorldPay and this included WorldPay, Bibit, Streamline and a couple of other of their merchant service payment companies. However, RBS were forced to sell off the WorldPay unit and it is now owned by a couple of venture capital companies.

Just tried a mock purchase on a site using Worldpay; got to the payment screen, decided I wanted to change my mind on the order, went to cancel and it gives an error page with no option to go back to the retailer...I think I'll avoid if that's the case; a sure way of losing a customer!
